I have an Audi A5 3.0lt diesel cab 2007 I have recently noticed a judder on 1st when shifting up and down .
Would a gearbox service rectify this or am i wasting my money and just get a recon gearbox instead ?

Depends what type. The 2.7 TDI was mated to a CVT (aka multitronic) and the 3.0 TDI was initially manual until the DCT (aka s-tronic) was introduced in 2009. Judder on a CVT would indicate wear as the chain is slipping. Judder on a DCT would suggest clutchpack wear. Both can be fixed at expense, but possibly more than a recon unit.
