What do you mean by saying "The debut of the A5" ? As far as i see the A5 has been shown already. And isnt April too late? And are you talking only about the US

Welcome to the site. Edmond is correct, the automatic will be coming out early 2008 when the A5 finally reaches the U.S. shores. In Europe manuals are more popular so there isn't a need to focus on getting automatics to market so quickly.

Actually i asked 2-3 dealers in Bulgaria and no one had idea when the automatics will be available and i dont agree that the automatics arent popular here in Europe ;) in my opinion the e-gear for s5 should be the only option and not the manual gearbox because we live in year 2007 and not in 1997.. :) so my question is whether there is an official info about the S5 ?

Audi has mentioned (confirmed) this in interviews as well. We won't see S-Tronic for at least a couple more years. Apparently though, the automatic will be a new version that they haven't used before. It should be quicker shifting, possibly similar in performance to what Lexus is bragging about on the upcoming IS-F next year, with the ability to shift in 0.1 of a second. Still has a power sapping torque converter and isn't as quick at the 0.02 of the current S-Tronic but an improvement over what we have available currently.

I was told that the S5 will be available in the uk with the tiptronic gearbox but not DSG. Your dealer will be able to tell you when.

Well not to start a manual versus automatic thread here as they're all so tired and played out -- but... I have a manual car and an automatic car. Both great, and both have their advantages and disadvantages. It's the "convenience" versus "fun" differences. I've driven the latest ZF tiptronics and DSG cars and they're technically very very good but zap the fun out of driving. Good for commuters and people doing a lot of city driving. If you really want to be in control and enjoy driving, the manual is the only choice... Still... in 2007.

You should check out some of the offerings from Mercedes, I think they're pretty much all automatics.

As this thread illustrates there is often confusion created due to Audis different marketing strategies across different countries. Wouldn't it be best to suggest that everyone adds into their profile where they come from as we seem to have UK, US, Bulgaria, & Russian spec cars to name a few on this forum?
This has caused confusion and as Audi will tell you specs vary across different regions and countries.
Still trying to find out about MMI.....
