Audi S5 2010 - Sport differential fault

So I had my S5 for about 8 weeks and this week I get Sports differential Fault on my dash. This happened when I arrived at work after a 20mile drive. When I got back in to leave the fault had gone. 4 days later and it's back again, same scenario.

Quick Google and there is all sorts of information from a software glitch to replacing the whole sports differential. Worrying part, if I got this right, is Audi don't have this part anymore and I even saw a post where someone mentioned that Audi said you will need an after market one.

Anyone got any advice or experience with this fault?
Anything I can get my local mechanic to check?

If required, where can you get an aftermarket one as googling I can't find anything.

Mine came up after a 4 wheel alignment - when back and they redid the work and it never came back.

Have you had anything done? Wheels/tyres etc?

No I have but when I brought the car I was told it just had 4 new tires.

Could big dips in the road cause it? I go down a hill, about 1/2 mile long and it's a 60mph road and there is a dip about 1meter square were the road has sunk. I say sorry to the car every time I go over it lol
VCDS mate see what codes come up

Just ran as scan with my odb2 device and got this.

Back-up camera:
03006 - Back-up Camera System not calibrated

ABS:
01324 - Control Module for All Wheel Drive (J492)

Headlight aiming:
02988 - Left/Right-Hand Traffic Switchover Active

Infotainment system:
03276 - Testing Management Software version
03175 - Invalid Dataset

J492. That will be it. It’s a small module next to the battery the runs the sport diff. I did have one spare but gave it to hazzy dayz. You could call them and buy it, or buy a second hand one on eBay. £30-£50. No coding needed, could swap in seconds.

no guarantee it will fix it.
OK, so I am a little confused.

Been googling around and on looking on eBay and could not find the module, however, I did find something called the Haldex ECU and is located next to the battery, so I am assuming it is the same thing.

So I then stumbled on this site which does repairs. Haldex Repairs

I have since pulled mine out to get the part number so I can work out if its GEN 2 or GEN 4.... only the number does not match.

I then google my part number and this is coming up as "Rear Differential Suspension Computer Control Module" or "Rear Axle Control Unit" and it looks nothing like the Haldex ECU.
The A5 is not haldex. You will find that on an S3, TT, Golf etc with a transverse mounted engine and Quattro. Part number probably starts 8P or 8V.

The A5 has a real rear differential, part will probably start with 8T or 8K

As for the other errors, your headlights are set for left hand driving in Europe (assuming you are in the UK) and someone has updated the MMI and not cleaned up after themselves. Your rear view camera needs calibrating, this is quite strange as this message usually appears when the module has been recoded. Was this retro fitted?
Thanks for that, so I need to look at the control unit for the differential.

In regards to the camera, I haven't a clue, brought the car about 2 months ago. I will double check but I believe the camera came with the car... unless it was swapped out?.

Mmi update was me but although I told my odb2 device to clear it, doesn't seem to do it.

How do you set the headlights back to right hand drive?
Headlights on a facelift can be changed in the MMI settings. Not too sure on a pre facelift.
The sports differential is not Haldex, it is Magna. The clutch plates are hydraulically controlled via valves which are actuated by the AWD control unit J492.
So it's a question of risking a used one from eBay or getting a new one. Used ones seem to be about £150 where as I have seen new at £500

I've seen 1 from a 2017 S5, had only done about 20k miles, got me thinking about a retro fit, but then thought it wouldn't be that easy. :)
