I thought for 2g to 3g+ the gateway was required for the changes in functionality? I had the old gateway on my 2g and had to upgrade to a later model when i changed to 3g+.You don't need the gateway, your 2G gateway is fine.
You also don't need a full replacement loom, I'll dig up my pictures of what was done one mine, basically the 2g loom had two retrofit ends fitted to it, one at the front to convert 2g cables into 3g ends for the gateway, screen and controller. the other end was to convert the radio etc into the same style of the 3g radio and amp.Another question...sorry haha. Is the 3G High harness the same as the 3G+ one?
Hi name is Jack Kirry - he charges 80Euro to remove CP on a 3G retrofit (that includes radio, 5F unit and for me gateway)Apparently there is a guy in Poland who can do it remotely. He has you buy a cable and plug in with a computer to some wifi. I can't for the life of me remember his name. I tried digging through the forums to find it but had no luck. Otherwise, yes the dealer is another option. I have heard from other guys that it only cost them $175 or so to do it. So I guess its hit or miss. I'll let you know once I am at that point!
Sweet thanks! But is the 3g loom the same for both 3Gh and 3G+. Just trying to figure what parts I need to source. You also don't need a full replacement loom, I'll dig up my pictures of what was done one mine, basically the 2g loom had two retrofit ends fitted to it, one at the front to convert 2g cables into 3g ends for the gateway, screen and controller. the other end was to convert the radio etc into the same style of the 3g radio and amp.
Meant i didn't have to rip out the MOST cables for the car, and was significantly cheaper to do than a full wiring loom replacement (around 100GBP, if you source parts yourself)
anyone know any that done it ? I am avoiding the dealership in my area as they are retarded idiots ( Northampton audi )gdjohny: Some independent VW Audi specialists can remove CP.
tmucha09: The looms are the same.

hey im trying to do the same upgrade do you have a list of parts you got and how much did the labour cost. as i think the parts may be cheaper now.Cost me £1600 to go from 2g to 3g+
Worth it though

how did you manage to do that and do you remember the list of parts you got to do the job.1600??
I upgraded from Concert to 3G+ for less than 1000!
Yes, I was really glad I decided not to try the entire job myself.Haha, that specialist was me
I do have some stuff laying around which would be needed for the conversion.
thanks a lot for the information and pictures. as i purchased an a5 i was thinking is this worth it because the amount of work and cost it will be. although i have been searching for parts online and some cut prices to be fair so maybe not as much as before but the labour would be also expensive. would you say do this or just get apple car play and install rear camera.![]()

Did the upgrade from Concert to 3G basic. Had to take half the car apart, replace the rear wire loom and create a MOST network. Parts from the top of my head:
I assisted in the installation and it took us (myself and a very experienced specialist) 11 hours straight in labour. Afterwards had to upgrade the firmware of the climate control unit and remove the component protection. Took about 1.5 month to source the parts from several suppliers and total cost was approx. EUR 1.000,-.
- MMI unit
- MMI screen, cable and facia
- center console control unit
- radiobox and holder
- wire loom
- gateway
