Thats the best type of fault mate, one that goes away lol. Hopefully wont come back.
Have a good one guys.

Im having the exact same problem with my ´11 Audi A5 2.0 TFSI. Started around christmas when all of a sudden the ABS, ESP, TPMS and Parking brake lights lit up. Sometimes the EPC light is lit as well. Went to see a Audi garage, they changed the batteri cause they said it was quite poor, but the problem came back two days after. Went back this week and they changed the powercable from the fusebox and till the ABS control unit itself. Drove one hour after and boom - it was back. Awaiting the local Audi garage to bump their heads together and come up with a plan.

Hi, see the image attached below. The fault on my car is intermittent too. The diagnostic done by a local garage showed abs sensor faulty. I dont believe it to be faulty as it may just need cleaning. I have left it as it is for the time being and await the weather to get a bit better. Hope this helps. Let us know if you get to the bottom of this issue. Regards

My problem seems to be fixed now. Got the car back from the dealer 3 days ago, and it looks fine now. They found a mechanical fault on both the ABS-sensors in the diagnostics, so they pulled them off and discovered that the sensors had 1mm deep grooves in them. Pulled off both front wheel bearings, and found the source of these grooves on the sensors. Over time dirt and brake dust (I guess) has attached itself to the back of the wheel bearing-hub (which I call it at least). As you propably know, here sits the rotors of which the ABS-sensors reads the RPM on the wheels. Changed both sensors and wheel bearings. Not a quick or cheap fix, but I sure as hell hope it is the correct fix. Paid about 11 000,- Norwegian Kroner for this (about 1350 US dollars), and thats with a good discount.

Hi folks.. sorry to drag this thread back up but mine sprang an error again tonight (18 months later!) Parking brake light came with error beep then ESP yellow car light came on (signalling it was disabled) Meanwhile felt like brakes being applied when trying to increase speed - not constant so an annoying intermittent judder every few seconds. After a minute or two I got a consult manual message. Thankfully screen didn't go blank and after the message the brakes stopped being applied but I did notice the power steering seemed a lot heavier. ESP light remained on so drove with caution.
The lack of power steering was a new one on me... although I never switch the ESP off so don't know if this is normal when in off mode?? Anyone?

Typically after I'd parked up for a while everything was back to normal. Will scan in the morning but pretty sure I'll be none the wiser.

Scanned this afternoon while giving it a well deserved vacuuming.

I'm flagging up the following;

Heating and aircon:
01316 ABS Control Module

ABS:
00778 Steering Angle Sensor (G85)
01314 Engine Control Module (ECM)

Steering angle
[failed to connect]

I know a few who have done retro cruise control have experienced this so does this sound like steering sensor fault or could it be an ABS sensor just causing the module to flag steering sensor (as they are all dependent on each other for ESP) ?

Anyone changed the steering sensor - is it better to DIY or warranty job?

It seems back to normal but I don't want to be stuck doing 35mph on the motorway if it cocks up again!

I would always clear any codes in the modules and see if any come back. If they do, start the diagnostics to find the culprit, usually the first code that comes back. The Bentley manual is very helpful with this process.

Cheers A5Guy... I'll give that a whirl but only using Carista to scan so not really got any diagnostic capability as such. I have a feeling that a couple of those faults are just a flag in the module to say a fault has been recognised so they'll always appear in 2s and 3s. Going to be getting a new battery soon so will get them to scan it when they code it, and get them to take a quick nosey at the ABS sensors/hubs.

With a new battery, they will need to clear all codes and adapt the new battery. If any codes come back after that, you will have a starting place. If no codes, no issues because the battery was the issue. Good luck!

Same thing just happened to my car.

A little background before it all happened. Was raining pretty hard in Southern Cali and even drove to small puddles of water.

Rain stopped about 8 hrs before my car acted up. Car was driving perfectly fine until I parked it outside. Came out 5 hrs later and my cluster lit up(yes, like it's christmas)
ABS, ESP and TPMS all went on when I started the car. Managed to drive the car on limp mode, good thing I'm only less than 10 miles from home.

Parked the car at home with all the lights still on the cluster. The next day, car won't even start anymore. It actually started but dies after 2 sec. Engine will turn for a long time but won't crank until I press the key again to stop it. Cluster is blank and car won't lock and beep. I can still unlock and open the trunk with the key though.

Tried reading with my VCDS but can't access it.

Update: so now car starts but all 3 lights are still there. Engine def. sounds louder than normally.

Have yet to diagnose it with VCDS

Hopefully this isn't the same common problem that BMWs have.... Faulty ABS unit.
I've recently abandoned the BMW ship due to this...
Intermittent parking brake, ABS, traction control warnings on the dash.

It's due to the ABS unit being of poor design and located in the engine bay too close to all the heat generated by the engine. It's a ÂŁ1800 part + labour taking it to roughly ÂŁ2500 job at BMW, or ecutesting can refurb your unit for about ÂŁ250 but you have to remove it and send it to them. Worth having a look on their website to see if they have info on the problem affecting Audis.

I'll admit I have only skim read this thread but seeing mentions of the warning lights, suggestions that it could be steering angle sensors, poor batteries, etc it sounds so similar, in fact, exactly the same as the BMW situation.

Something to investigate I would say... even if only to rule it out.

Hi Jschrauwen

In my experience, if the ab fault comes and goes along with other faults such as electronic brake etc, the cause is likely to be the dirty/faulty wheel bearing. ABS sensor takes the reading from the magnetic stip on the wheel bearing. I had the wheel bearing replaced and errors have disappeared and not come back on. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Jav.
I just had my Airbag control module replaced as part of an Audi recall. The Airbag warning and electronic brake warnings are both gone now. :smile2:
I post up more details on this if someone needs it.

Im not sure if anyone has had this issue fixed but it started with my 2010 A4 in summer. Went of and on every now and then but now its always on. Had the lights taken off but them to appear again days later. When i took it to an Audi Dealer they said it was wiring on the passenger side above the wheel and it will cost ÂŁ600-ÂŁ700. When i called AA out to it they said it could possibly be a fault ABS sensor as all the lights come on at the same time. Hope this helps

I had a battery issue - After resolving it, the ABS light went on and so did the TPMS (Malfunction). As per the user manual, the ABS light went out after a few feet of driving. However the TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system in my 2010 A6 is based on measuring tire speed with the ABS sensor) remained on with the "malfunction" indicated. I went through the MMI reset procedure which, because the car is stationary doesn't really check anything, but I was hoping it would reset the TPMS light.

What I'm tinking is that I need to clear a code in some place to turn off the TPMS. I'm in the process of deciding which VDS tool to buy with the hopes that I can reset the error code (all the tire pressures are correct and have been for the duration). Does this sound correct? I have not had the car very long and I expect to be in learning mode for some time.

Anyway - your comment about things needing to be reset after the battery is changed gave me hope.

Thanks,
Aaron
