Audi A5 Convertible... ?

Well, I’ve owned many Audi’s over the years, but always fancied an A5 Convertible. Having previously owned an S5 V8, I initially started looking at S5 convertibles, but my budget would only get me an early 09/10 car which plays right into the danger zone for the early gearboxes, and this concern matches with the right car just not turning up meant I changed my plan and started looking for 2.0TFSI Quattros. I had this engine in s B7 A4 Quattro many years ago and it was brilliant, particularly with a REVO map!

Well, here it is, I picked it up late Friday evening, with a great drive home through the city of London with the roof down enjoying the warm evening. The car has full Audi main dealer service history, with the all important engine rebuilt 2-years ago under warranty to sort the oil consumption issue early petrol cars had.

I intend to do a few mods, nothing major as I like the OEM look, but will certainly appreciate everyone’s input and advice.

This was taken just after 11pm when I got home, parked up against my Avant, and opposite my wife’s Q7. It will be in good company!

Great choice!

Did it come with the flip up wind deflector?
Yes, it did. Spec is nice too, with xenon lights, fully auto seats with memory function, napper leather, front and rear parking sensors with colour display and the all important heated seats.

I would have liked power boot. Is it possible to retro fit this?
Power boot was never even an option so there wouldn't be any parts around to retrofit. It's only on the new B9 Sportback variant.

I do have some cabriolet retrofit parts left over from when I had one, reversing camera, carbon interior trim (new and unused) etc. Message me if you might be interested in such things.
Yes, I’m interested, and will pm you.
Regarding the power boot, I had this fitted to my 57 plate S5 coupe, so assumed it was an available option on the convertible?
Hang on, are we talking about the the same thing? The sportback is fully motorised to smoothly open and close again. Is that the kind you mean? Or having a switch on the drivers door that makes the boot pop open?

You'll find the parts catalogue very useful :)

Ah, yes your right. Basically if you held down the boot unlock button on the key fob the boot would unlock and open by itself. Mating it easy to drop in shopping bags and stuff when carrying small children etc. I’m not fussed on a switch by the drivers door, but a remote open would be great...?
The middle button on your keyfob should open it, but for some reason they didn't make the spring actually lift it right up, you can at least open it with an elbow if you were able to press the button on the fob. I don't know if anyone has done a mod to change this. On the B9, they fixed it, just kick under the bumper and it springs open.
My old S5 boot would spring completely open. The boot on my new car doesn’t even move (apart from opening the latch), perhaps I need some new struts..

That's correct, it just pops and doesn't open. If you find a strut/spring that can fully open let us know - I've been looking out for this for while. Cheers.

Well, I’ve been busy since the purchase last Friday.. Starting with the purchase of some pretty knackered, but genuine RS5 20” alloy wheels.

And, to save £120 per alloy to get them diamond cut I decided to referb and paint them myself. What is the worst that could happen?!

Lots of rubbing down, plenty of paint, accurate masking and lots of clear coat. And, they came out great!

Not entirely. My "boot" (trunk to us yanks) only springs open about 1/4 of the time, whether I use the kick or the opening lever in the interior. :(
Well I fitted the new wheels this weekend, and what a difference. I was really worried they were going to stick out too far, as I hate this look - but they are perfect, completely flush with the arch with nothing extruding at all. They haven’t compromised the ride either, and look amazing!

good job on the wheel refurb.
I have the same style to refurb on my kid brother's A3 as he parks by feel...
Yep, perfectly flush, they look great, even on standard suspension too ?
The suspension has settled down now with a perfect fit round the wheel, which I can report is completely flush. Lush!

You didn't happen to get the model number did you?
I didn’t I’m afraid, but if you search ‘Genuine Audi RS5 Alloys’ on eBay you will see plenty. I got mine from GumTree for £800, but had to referb myself to make perfect.
That's the problem. Everyone sells "genuine Audi a5 alloys" but they are of loads of other cars.

Maybe I am being too pedantic with the width of them. I'll send you close ups when I get home on Friday.
