I purchased a 2008 Audi A5 3.0 for an extremely cheap price. It has 141k miles on it. When the car is idle it makes a ticking noise but when driving it or putting the revs on the noise disappears.

I’ve been told it’s the turbo, and then I’ve been told it’s nothing to worry about but it constantly ticks when idle which I’ve been told could be the cam folders, after ticking any advice is appreciated.

The 3.0 TDI can be ticky at idle. My first one was a little. I’ve been told the injectors can be responsible for that, not in a worrying way, just a characteristic. My first one was like that from when I got it at 22k miles to when I sold it at 85k miles. Never got worse or better. Just the way it was.

I would give it a service flush with 600 ml of 'Wurth Engine Flush' and then an oill (7lt) & filter (genuine) change.
