Hello,

I am interested to buy a used A5 coupe 0-140km, I like the 3.0 TDI just because it's faster and has 6s 0-100km while the A5 2015 TDI 2.0 190hp has 0-100km 7.8s the fuel consumption difference is not huge. Do you think it worth buying an older cheaper model for the more powerful engine? What about differences in the reliability, reselling, futures, design, etc?

On paper the fuel economy looks similar in figures but in real life it’s a different matter

I’ve just swapped from a 2.0 golf to a 3.0 a5 the difference is probably 20% on the same journey

I get 41mpg average on my 250 mile motorway drives. In the winter it's closer to 38mpg, in the summer it's closer to 44.5mpg due to air temp (England).
That's on a simple ECU tune on a 2009 A5 3.0tdi.
However, around town and short drives, it's closer to 34mpg.

Untuned 2009 3.0TDI. I get 40+ on the motorway at 70mph (if a long drive).
I once got 52mpg after 50 miles at 57mph (was wanting a slow cruise back after long day at work).
And i get 36mph it seems on average if i drive "spirited". I like the pull and sound from the V6.

The question you should really be asking yourself is can you live with the lower fuel consumption of a 3.0? If yes then get the V6.
How many miles do you really do a year? The fuel consumption is not much different.

I agree with this. The 3.0 can be pretty frugal if driven correctly. However, the fun comes in not driving it correctly
Its about £80 to fill up at current prices (£1.25/L), and I routinely get 480-500 miles from a tank.

Goodness, the 3.0 diesel is surely the best option for the A5. AND the difference is surely not in the 0-60 times but in the torque curves, so in real driving this car stomps ahead of any 2 litre car. Where I work we have a company A4 with the 3.0 diesel and that car truly flies......

Thank you I got it 3.0 is good and mpg is fine for me. What about 2012 vs 2015 does it worth being 5k more same km?

If you can, go for the younger car as it'll have fewer miles on the clock. I think the '15 3.0tdi comes in 2 power options - 210ps and 240ps? That's just a tune on the ECU so easy to get around. But there are others on here who have them, where as I've got an '09 plate car.

Mine is a 57 Reg it’s got a mild map but the most impressive thing is how it keeps the power on the road

My thought would be to go for the newer car if you can, cos you will save on costs of bits and pieces and servicing given that she will have less mileage. Make sure the car has a fullish service history if possible.....

The OP said originally, the 2015 is the 2.0 and the 2012 is the 3.0

The 3.0 245bhp version is quattro and sounds better, goes better and simple remap put around 310-330bhp! Or go the whole way and get 500bhp!

When I test drove my S5, I thought it felt a little slower than my 3.0 tdi (310bhp), but it doesn't now!

Also, not sure, but I think on the 'facelift' B8.5 the 2.7tdi was replaced by a de-tuned (204bhp) 3.0tdi! So double check this as this de-tuned model is front wheel drive only, you will need the quattro with the 3.0tdi!!
Even with a 1.9tdi, Audis struggle putting the power down in front wheel drive only.

I agree I had a mapped 1.9 and if you wanted to drive it quickly it would spin the wheels quite quickly

The 3.0 with a mild remap is pretty rapid but still don’t agree with the mpg above my work is 15 miles with a mix of roads and it’s about 30% less then my old golf that is a bit of a difference

Main difference is the 3.0
Is 4 wheel drive so feels alit better on the road

There also rapid for there size too
