Audi A5 2.0Tfsi - which air filter to make exhaust note louder??

2620 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Lariat54
Got an a5 2.0Tfsi stage 1 remapped to 278bhp.

Only thing is I want the exhaust sound louder. Any recommendations with links for which air filter to buy for this?

I've heard K&N air filters achieve this - anyone got any experience with these and could possibly share a link so I can buy it?

Thanks

The change would be minimal in a turbo car, if at all notifiable, you are more likely to hear a little more induction noise under boost. That said for a stage 1 the factory filter is fine, but if you feel the need a drop in K&N panel filter is a good mod. Best thing for more exhaust sound is a high flow muffler to replace resonator or go for a proper cat back system from Miltek or Cobra

Peligro mate you will get more INTAKE noise with K and N but not exhaust!!! BMC and K&N are both excellent in my opinion and experience, the only things I change on my bikes are air filter and exhaust to let them breathe better and to remove some weight (exhaust).

I see. My air filter needs a change anyway so even if it's only a little difference i'm still down to try it out. Any idea where to get one from?

Also yeah thanks for your suggestions for exhaust sound. Would replacing the resonator with a high flow muffler be the cheapest option? I'm happy to pay £200 max.

Thanks for your reply mate and my bad not exhaust noise correct. Any idea where to get a K&N air filter? I typed it into ebay and lots of options came up...

Also in terms of exhaust sound what do you reckon is the cheapest option. Only willing to pay around £200

You'll need to goto k&n.com to find the part number first in their part finder... Then plug that number into ebay.

For exhaust 200gbp at best would get you the centre muffler/resonator chopped out and replaced with a cheap straight through peice. May or May not sound a bit droney at Highway speeds. I'm unfamiliar with 2.0tfsi but my TT 3.2 we used a 450mm magnaflow straight through resonator to take care of drone while increasing volume. (aka tampa mod).

Depending on year of your A5 I think this might be your filter here

Check with seller
I have a 2009 TFSI 211bhp model and was looking to get the K&N panel filter but they cost like £60 for a drop in filter :mad:Read online comments and people saying just noise and no gains so left it.

If you want noise maybe consider the K&N induction kit and a dump valve. The ladies(or gents) will definately know you making an extrance.
Sayek the filters do cost that much BUT you never need to change them again, just remove, clean and relube and off you go!! They DO make the engine breathe better for sure.
Thanks for the replies guys.

Can anyone suggest a cone air filter with a short ram intake for my A5? Or is that not a thing for the A5?

Also will the panel air filter make any difference to the sound - anyone there who has done this and can comment?

Not sure if this is what you are looking for or if they are available in EU, but I have this on my 2017 A5 Cab Kohlefaser Luft-Technik Intake System, You will definitely hear intake noise! There is also much more noticeable turbo noise. This removes the entire stock airbox, uses the original air duct between the hood and grill then straight to the area of the air filter. Also replaces the air duct between the filter and the turbo inlet giving you the increased intake/turbo noise.

I have the K&N drop in filter on the 2016 A5 Coupe, not really any appreciable intake noise from it. Mainly purchased for the reusability.
