Anyone taking an Extended Warranty ?

Has anyone decided to take an extended warranty?
I know that for some folks on lease terms that are less the standard (USA) 4 year warranty would not opt for one.

I have had them on my last 2 cars (Acura's), but have not had to exercise them much....they just did not break. I tend to keep my cars for 5+ years, so the period beyond the standard warranty period can get be an exposure.

Yeah - good question. I have a feeling I may keep my A5 past original warranty as well, but it seems like the amount you'd save by extending now versus buying a third party down the road may be negligible (especially after time value of money is factored in), and it would then only be worth it if transferable, though I assume it is (?).

Is there anyone in the U.S. who has taken delivery who can tell us what the add-in options looked like? The list that we got of warranties, services, treatments, etc. when we bought my girlfriend's Lexus was mind-boggling.

I agree the list of warranties/service contracts/treatments etc. are overwhelming. I got tired of listening to them when all I wanted to do was sign for the car and leave to drive it. I did do the service plan for the 50,000 miles, the rim warranty given how bad our roads are, but I passed on any extended warranties, paint protection options, tire wear options etc. I will be trading by wife's A3 in this fall for a 09 A4 but will be close on miles (45,000) now. It would cost me $1500 dollars or so to extend the warranty I believe for another 3 years or 50,000 miles(don't quote me on the years or miles though). I chose not to but if I were keeping it for another 2 years or more I would have.
Absolutely. I leased the car for 42 months, I put 25 K miles per year on the car, and after the horrible experience I have had with Mercedes Benz (thank God I purchased the extended warranty) I will never go without it. I don't have time to worry about car problems and don't mind paying a bit extra for the insurance.
