The sound coming through the speakers will gradually dip in volume for 10-15 seconds to a level I can barely hear, the rise back up to the normal level. And I'm not playing with volume knobs.

Also, what does the GALA do? It's not explained in the manual.

Not familiar with the level issue you're experiencing but GALA stands for Gradual Audio Level Adjustment. If you have it switched on the volume will increase and decrease with engine speed. Personally I find it annoying.

Gala

There's a microphone that detects ambient noise in the car's cabin and adjusts the speaker volume accordingly to compensate for it. I keep GALA turned off as I can't stand the fluctuating speaker volumes that are sometimes too drastic.

I had this when I first got my car. I thought it was to do with the GALA settings but I turned it off and it still did it.

It turned out it was my phone (nokia 6233) and not the car.
