FWIW, that's the same pic I would have posted IF had seen this thread earlier.

So attached is my feeble attempt at PS to black out the rings also. It was a rush job, so please refrain from your critquing.

On a black A5 if possible, i'm finding out for a friend....so any help would be much appreciated.

SAJ, ironically I just ran across a similar thread posted today on a German forum where someone was requesting a pic for their buddy of an A5 with a blacked out Audi logo. Below is a pic (albeit of a white A5) that someone replied with that shows the logo blacked out.

And if you use house's "blur your eyes" technique, you'll find that the grille surround appears to be blacked out too.

My A5 is black normally I blacken everything but I think the chrome on the black looks nicer than all black.

I have blacked out the amber headlight markers and darkened the taillamps though, along with debadge.

m3ikey, do you have any pics of your car you can share?

I'm loving that original picture! Anyone know where I can get one of those grilles from?

My guess is that it's custom painted. They custom painted the rear valence on that car a glossy black, so that's why I'm assuming they probably just painted the grille surround (as opposed to installing an aftermarket one). They also painted the exhaust tips.

Yep, that's my car in the second photo posted by theMil. While I can appreciate the blacked out look, it's not something I'm interested in doing on my car. I think that effect is better suited for cars that have a paint color other than black.

Here's a white A5 in Germany with a blacked out S5 grille installed, gloss black roof, and gloss black S5 rear diffuser. (You can tell it's an A5 by the seat headrests.)

Unless I'm mistaken, our configs in the US are:

Standard A5 - standard plastic black grid pattern with chrome surround and chrome rings

A5 S-Line - same as above but gloss black

S5 - grey with pronounced chrome verticals

I agree that the A5 S-Line grille looks sporty, but I do like the chrome vertical bars as well. I'd be tempted to just take the grille to a good body shop and convert the grey part to gloss black.

It is also notable that if you get the license plate delete cover, it is always grey whether you have A5 or S5. I would want to paint this gloss black as well.

Ray, yes you are mistaken regarding US spec cars.

Both the non S-line A5 and A5 S-line get the IDENTICAL gloss black grille in the US. I've seen plenty of them to know this is 100% the case (at least for MY2008). My own non S-line A5 has the gloss black grille just like the S-line.

You are also incorrect about the front filler plate. When you spec the front filler plate with your A5 order in the US, it comes from the factory in gloss black on both the A5 and A5 S-line. Only the S5 filler plate is gray.

Yep, I'll give you that. Yes, their pics are misleading. It very well could be that if one were to order an A5 filler plate from them, it might not be gloss black. But, definitely spec'ing an A5 from the factory will have a gloss black filler plate and grille.
