A5 Stalled while moving

Hey guys, I've had my A5 S-Line for about 4 months now and 4,000 miles. Overall, very satisfied despite very minor issues.

Just now I was driving on a local road going around 25mph and the engine light goes on along with the "EPC" light - couldn't feed it gas and the steering got tighter, I'm not sure if it happened after a shift or not, so I pull over to the side and start the car up and all seems fine.

Luckily, it didn't happen in a potentially dangerous situation.

Of course , I will be calling the service department but just wanted to ask you guys to gain some insight on the possible cause, so I could be equipped with more knowledge prior to talking to service.

Thought I would add that this happend a few minutes after filling up on gas. Prior to filling it up the needle was on E. Not sure if this had anything to do with it.
Me, too!

This is so strange. I have experienced precisely the same thing in my '08 A5 -- in fact, I posted a thread on the subject a while back:
http://www.a5oc.com/forums/showthread.php/has-anyone-had-3309/index.html?t=3309

And what a coincidence. It happened to me again yesterday -- coming out of the gas station! (and in the middle of an intersection) -- for the first time since June. (BTW, the tank was about half full before I filled it). That makes the third time this has happened to me in the five months I've had the car, and all three times it happened right after filling the tank. There's definitely something going on -- and I plan to ask my service department about it, too. I'll be interested in comparing the responses we get. :(
When my wife picked up her new Audi on Monday, the dealer was going through the handover bits and I overheard him going through the warning lights and he mentioned the EPC light. He said that the most common reason for it coming on is bad fuel and they had a load of cars hit a few years back when one of the supermarkets got the fuel wrong.
Happened to me one time as well...immediately after fueling. And I do mean immediately...I was rolling out of the gas station lot.

Bad fuel doesn't explain it, especially in my case, because the new fuel woudln't have had time to even make it down the lines. And the car ran fine after that for the rest of the tank.
This has happened to me as well but prior to filling up.

Its a new Audi feature when the car knows its going to get bad fuel in advance. ;)
ive had this happen @ 8-10 times already most of the time not anywhere near me putting gas in. A long with the shaking at 60, the super squeaky window and this, its getting annoying and audi never fixes my problems but ill go off on them and theyll prolly give me some free stuff
(see other post)
This happened to me today and as I was coasting to the side of the road so I could re-start, all I could do was think about this thread.
I see just 2008 stalling not 09. My dealer told me there was a change in the vacuum
system in the 2009 A5s. I wonder if your dealers missed a recall.
I think by opening the fuel cap the vacuum created within the fuel tank is broken. After refuelling the tank needs to re-pressurise and the lack of vacuum from the tank causes the car to stall .
Cant seem to put it into words right now but i know what i mean.
I bet you wont get very far if you left the fuel cap off. Probably stall every few yards. Anyone want to experiment?

Or the carbon canister is purging at the wrong time or a bad fuel cap.
I have the Bosch GDI DVD. I says a lot about canister purging and the vacuum system. I have a 2009 A5, so far so good, no stalling.;)
Oh man!

I have this same prob in my 89 Audi coupe! It is quite scary, esp when you driving on the autobahn! The engine lights come on... engine dies, power steering goes.. so its hard to turn... etc I didn't realize the prob was on the A5 now. I know its a vac prob on my old Audi. I hope they fix it for the A5.
