I've got 3.0TDi. Can't see why the rads need to be disconnected to change auxiliary belt. It's right at the front of the car, not much in the way.

2.7TDi same as 3.0TDi externally, just different bits inside for smaller capacity, less power.

Chris, think your neighbour's:
got a different generation engine
needs other work doing
got a creative quote!
Possibly. When I had the belt changed in mine with the water pump about eight months ago, Audi did it. With labour and parts it was 700GBP. That included coolant and anti-freeze as the front of the car had to come off and rad came out.

We might be getting our names mixed up here. As the I think this is the timing belt that is changed at the front.

The front of the A5 3.0Tdi QUATTRO has to be removed to change the rad. I had to have a 2 fan conversion to allow Audi tow bar to be fitted.

Anyone need an A5 3.0Tdi QUATTRO hi spec+ 2k worth of tow bar mods?? Used once!!

I may need to move to a bigger motor soon unless I can persuade Mrs RG her next car is an A4 Avant!!

Cheers

RG - bad luck mate - dont think they 4.2V8 TDi fits in the A5 - pity

A4 Avant is fantastic car for the missus - cant rate it highly enough:thumbsup:

A4 Avant and A5 Coupe on the drive - perfect combination imho (hth!)

The Q was more about changing the belts though, not dismantling to add 2nd fan option.

Looks to me for the current 2.7/3.0TDis that the auxiliaries belt can be changed without removing anything, the timing "belt" is a chain that is designed for life of engine.

I understand the Q Mr G. My understanding from Audi Tec was that the Rad had to be removed ( or significantly moved forward) to change the Aux belts.

We currently have A3 S/Back Q and MY A5 in the fleet + a few 'old friends'... We really need a bigger load lugger next year, I hope it's an A4 Avant (with a decent motor and QUATTRO) for the missus but fear it may be me who ends up with the bigger motor, maybe an A5 cab for the missus!!. (Although I can certainly recommend a 2008 Citroen Relay 3.0 Diseasel White Van based on last weeks experiences!)

Not good news RG. A4 Avant - or even A6 Avant is space is critical - for Mrs RG has to be the way to go....

Can't argue with that as we also have an B8 A4 avant and, likewise, I rate it as well.

Audi claiming A5 Sportback load lugging ability on a par with A4 Avant, though not with 4 passengers presumably as need seats down.

RG - so it's two A5s on the drive then!
Coupe and Sportback

Sorted by Hashluck
Not sure I like the look of the Sportback A5.... I think the A4/A6 Avants actually look rather nicer!

Why call it an A5????$$$:wall:

Agreed - think Audi should have modelled the Sportback on the A4 and called it an A4 Fastback/Sportback (and given it 5 seats).

imo the sportback really dilutes the purity of the A5 Coupe brand - which is selling so fast the factory cant keep up.

Think this will become even more obvious when the RS5 is released taking the A5 even further upmarket.

Lets hope so Gruffle and keep the Residual value up!!

The A5 Sportback is NOT a proper Coupe as the ads imply... it is like the BM*crap 5 GT and the VW 'Piss at' CC, i.e. not a proper Coupes!!

A market for such cars exists but why oh why have Audi called it an A5...

Maybe we need to start calling ours simply 'Audi Coupes' like the original Audi 80 based models... they are never referred to as Audi 80 (or even 90) Coupes after all...

Any thoughts folks...

Nice one ... how do we get the badges made up then?
Do we need them? Just let's start calling them 'Audi Coupes' and drop the A5!

I don't do badge removals,customising, PP's etc!!

Cheers

Simple fact is the A5 sportback is aimed directly at the company car market.
Most companies have a policy of not allowing 2 door company cars on their fleet
Obviously with the A5 being somewhat coveted, Audi know there will be a massive take up if they provide a "back door" way of obtaining one (pardon the pun)

Sounds a reasonable assumption. However I have run several CC Fleets and never come accross the no 2 door policy. I assume this is mainly Rep type companies rather than Professional services where we have had Porsches, Z4's TTs etc on the Fleet.

Help me please AB, cos I know your Company scheme has no such narrow minded restrictions!

They call it an 'A5' because the A5 model line is that which heralded the new B8 platform - as is well known, the A4 was a later derivative of this. The A4 is and was always intended to be the workaday manifestation (inc the load-lugging Avant') of this floorpan - the A5 product line was to embrace the 'lifestyle versions - coupe, cabrio, Sportback, et al.

That's how it works.

By the way RG, loving the word-play - sophisticated stuff as usual! We miised you whilst you were in France.

The Original Audi Coupe existed as an Audi Coupe and was never TTBOMK refered to by any other name. Whilst recognising there are similarities the Sportback 'A5' should be called something else or as I suggested the new Coupe called the Audi Coupe as with the original. In my opinion the A5/S5 Coupe and Cab are rather more special than the A5 Sportback... but then again I'm not looking for your agreement.

I am back in France with the Audi Coupe now BTW so you will no longer be missing my posts...nicely hooked up via SFR and my HP Laptop thanks to my A5OC French mate from Lorient!! Also enjoying buying fuel at 90p a litre, and decent wine at £3.00 a bottle.

Cheers

RG - bon soir mon ami - you need to update your sig mate, seems you're still droiving around in one of those old A5 things, not these gorgeous new Coupes.

PS Audi did the Sportback, cos they're 2nd guessing what Merc, BMW, Porsche at al are up to. Herd mentality really, none of them can let one of the others get a niche to themselves.

Still reckon they could have made it closer to the A4 to keep the purity of the coupe and cab.

Used to be the case about ten years ago. Now the only restrictions (aside from the size of your wallet) are 1) No LHD cars and 2) No Pickups of any description. Everything else is fine.
