A5 Folding Mirrors / Door Modules

Hi all

I have attempted to retrofit folding mirrors on my late 2012 audi a5 coupe (facelift)

i have fitted the following parts for the folding mirrors

8T2 857 409 AH 3FZ -left mirror
8T2 857 410 AH 3FZ -right mirror
8K0 959 565 C WEP -door trim
8K0 959 565 B -mirror switch
8T0 919 173 A -light ring
7L6 868 243 -clip
(all brand new)

I understand i need to replace the door control modules

i have purchased and fitted

8t0 959 792J and 793J which I am lead to believe are highline door modules for facelift A5

now my car does not lock nor does it operate the mirrors at all - the door lock switch does not even illuminate
i have done the obvious and attempted coding the units but still no joy

I can only presume these modules are not compatible with my car

can anyone shed some light and let me know which units may be compatible?

here is a list of the associated components fitted from factory:

Not an expert on this but just wondering if there's "Component Protection" that needs to be first removed on the new door modules that you got.
Mine are 8T0959793J/8T0959792J and yes they are highline.
These modules don't have CP so we can rule out that.
Post a VCDS scan of:

Do you have the old coding? If yes transfer that to the new ones and we will start from there.

This was is the scan with original modules and i did copy and paste the coding as well as manually coding which all seemed OK but i had no communications
I also ensured "Transport Mode" was not enabled as these are new door module units but still nothing!!
Output test can see the door mirror switch being activated if I manually press the button on the door and if i try to adjust the mirror, I can see communications but the mirrors do not move

Im struggling to see what else it could possibly be!!

By "but i had no communications" do you mean that now with the new module you cannot connect to 42 and/or 52 ?
There was communications indeed - i was able to code the unit but nothing happened

Genuine VCDS cable

i cannot remember the fault code i kept getting on the modules (i will check later)
I did not think the door modules needed to be changed when doing this conversion. When I was planning on doing the conversion (ended up selling the parts) I did not read anything about changing door modules just coding the existing modules via VCDS. Why did you need new door modules?
"Low" line modules doesn't support folding mirrors :(

I had no idea folding mirrors was only for the rich and famous, ha! Thank you for correcting me, learn something new every day. I wish I could help out more, but I never tried the coding myself. The parts for the conversion just sat around my house in the pile of unfulfilled modifications until I sold them.
Hi Just done this mod to my facelift 2013 A5 had to change the modules to 8T0 959 793 P, did try another module fully pinned it coded up but had the same fault mirrors would not fold and locking did not work hope this help
Any chance that you swapped the modules - left module on the right door .... ?

Thank you all

the mystery has been solved

Just a quick lookup in ETKA, the Drivers side Door module should be an 8T0959793G up to 2012 and an 8T0959793P from 2013^. Passenger side is 792 but same suffix as previously stated.

Which door modules did you used to complete your retrofit folding mirror, just trying to avoid confusion

This makes since when I did this years ago. What your looking for is the little boxes in the top right of the module. The high line version is a completely shaded box:

The low line version which will not support folding wing mirrors will have only half the box shaded:

In my pre-face lift car I fitted 8K0 959 793 H (Driver) 8K0 959 792 H (Passenger). These were from an audi A4 and required only selecting the folding mirror option in VCDS and I was away.

I got an facelift A5 without folding mirror when it’s out of the factory. Any idea what module will I need to make it work? Got everything except the module. Thanks
This is what I installed in my A5 facelift 2012,

8T0959793P Driver Side
8T0959792P Passenger Side

After you done your install, setup is as follow;

Enabling Drivers Door Folding Mirror

[42 - Door Elect. Driver]

[Coding - 07] -> [Long Coding Helper] -> Byte 4 Bit -> 4 Change 0 to 1

Or Check the box for "Foldable Mirrors Installed "

Enabling Passenger Door Folding Mirror

[52 - Door Elect. Pass]

[Coding - 07] -> [Long Coding Helper] -> Byte 4 Bit -> 4 Change 0 to 1

Or Check the box for "Foldable Mirrors Installed "

Enabling MMI Menu for Folding Mirrors

[46 - Central Conv.]

[Coding - 07] -> [Long Coding Helper] -> Byte 7 Bit -> 7 Change 0 to 1

Or Check the box for "Foldable Mirrors Installed "
