Hi Guys,
i have a questions which i believe will lead to me getting flamed!

So, the Audi S3 sounds aweosome, and i wanted to replicate this sound on my A5.
I have a 2.0tfsi and i belive the previous S3 is also a 2.0tfsi. So what do you think i need to do to make it sound like the S3? it cant be as simple as just adding say an S3/ S5 exhaust can it? Obviously im guessing id need to poduce more power to actually get that meaty sound.

At the moment the 2.0tfsi 180ps sounds aweful. You cant even head the exhaust.

Your advice will be greatly appreciated!

To help you not catch a rash of shit from the s5 guys your never going to make your 4 cylinder sound like a 6 but the general thought right now is anything but apr for exhaust because there exhausts are built like shit from an outside manufacturer there ecu stuff is still good but that's about it as far as deep throaty sound I've heard a lot about the miltech not Sure on spelling for that at the moment but if you do a high flow cat or test pipe plus a good exhaust from whoever you choose you should get a louder throaty sound

The S3 is a 4 cylinder and essentially the same engine as your 2.0tfsi. I see no reason why you can't get close to the same sound.

I would have to disagree that it sounds good though!

Hey thanks for the reponses!
Yeh i thought it was more or less the same engine. Im havingmine remapped and the tuner says it will increase the BHP to around 250 low end and this is to be proven via a dyno. I believe these engines have been remapped to 280 stock.
Also in terms of the sound.... this may sound stupid, but will somehow adding an s5 exhaust give it that meatier S3 sound?

It depends which S3 you are talking about? If its the v6 then no you will not replicate the sound with a 4 cylinder engine no matter what exhaust you put on it. If the S3 was also a 4 cylinder then you should be able to get close to the same sound..

Probably loads of aftermarket manufactures for exhausts. Milltek have a good reputation for Audi's, personally I am a big fan of Remus, had one on my S4 and it sounded awesome...

Erm, S3 has never had a V6. Even the previous gen RS3 was a 2.5 turbocharged straight 5. I've a mate on his second new S3 (first was stolen after just 1 month after someone broke into his house and took the keys) and they do sound nice. Very similar to the Golf R. Definitely both 2.0 straight 4s, turbocharged.

Best advice is to remap and new exhaust. If you want to go the whole hog then you'll need to replace the rear valance for the S5 version to allow for a quad exhaust, which Milltek make for both the manual and the S-Tronic version of your car. Details available here. I'm sure that would solve your sound issue, but it's not cheap - in the order of ÂŁ1300+ plus the bits from Audi and then budget around another ÂŁ400 for a remap.

Also, are you sure yours is a 179 PS version? There do seem to be less options for remaps for that version as opposed to the 211 PS version.

I got the quad exit Milltek on my 2.0TFSI A5 and its quite meaty.

I been meaning to get a video with the Gopro attached to the rear so you can hear it as I struggled to find a video of it before I got it.

back in the day if we wanted to pretend we had a bigger engine than we actually had we just used a hammer and a six inch nail to bodge holes in the silencer box.

today they are using audio amplifiers and speakers to put artificial engine noise into the interior...

good luck with achieving your aim..

Without trying to sound too 'senior' I just don't understand either. The A5 is a nice quality car, why would you want it to be noisy?

It doesn't pop I don't think no. Its a manual and I agree with DavidS. I didn't want to make mine noisy just more than what it was. Now has a deeper throatier sound that does not take anything away from the A5 :) I like to think everything I have done to my car I can still say is subtle, no??

IMHO anyway lol. When I get a vid up I you can see and hear for yourself although a lot will depend on your speakers at home.

I just got a AWE exhaust (quad tip) installed and I'm loving it.

Hesitated a lot between that and Milltek and from the YouTube clips I watched, it seemed the AWE had a deeper throatier note.

I also have a EuroCode HFC due to be installed tomorrow and after that I'm going to go for APR Stage 2 remap.

Your car won't sound like a V6 but it will definitely be more 'growly' especially when you open up the throttle.
