Well, after reading through a lot of forums, my car is exhibiting symptoms of what are commonly seen in other models as BAD COIL PACKS. Don't quote me yet, I just dropped it off a few hours ago, but intermittent EPC & Blinking light accompanied by shudders under acceleration and idle, that will go away now and then upon restart, sounds to me like I've got the first bad ones on an A5... I'll let ya'll know when I get it back.

Both of my A3s have had coilpack issues. I thought the VAG Group had learned their lesson on this matter.

I got a call a little while ago, the tech is looking into it. They think it may be a fuel issue (God, I hope so), rather than coil packs. The problem is, it was such an intermittent occurance, and restarting the car would cause everything to revert to normal. If it were bad fuel, I'd imagine it'd run like crap perpetually.

Called and said "come pick it up". CEL was a misfire on the 6th cylinder, chalking it up as bad fuel. I'm going to go put a fresh tank of good stuff in it, and stay the hell away from the station I went to before. Sheesh!

Thank goodness the issue wasn't due to anything faulty on the car itself.

Does this just effect the odd Petrol A5 or is it the Diesel aswell ??

this is something I didn't want to hear.

We had this issue with the VW Passat after the 2001.5 model release. My 98' never experienced this problem in it's 10 years of service but they were the OEM Beru units. I believe once they went to BOSCH, things went downhill quickly.

Wondering if heat is a factor because it's REALLY hot in the engine bay. Not even my 1.8T was this hot; I"m talking about the surrounding platics, shock towers - just too hot to keep you hands on it even after 15 minutes of cool down. It's really hot to the point I may consider a carbon-fiber replacement so I can have custom vents installed. I did this with my Cobra for the same reason.
I can almost understand any component living in this environment, to fail.
