Hi all,

Does not seem to be many "chip tuning" companies for the 3.0TDI at present..especially companies trusted and with a proven track record..

Just put a call into ABT who reckon for £900+vat, they can provide 30 more horses than standard and increase torque to around 550nm.. This to me sounds expensive...

Spoke to Ed at APS (very nice chap) he reckons for roughly £500+vat, they can increase BHP to around 45 horses and push out around 580nm of torque. Now I suspect that APS are very established and potentially smaller than ABT, however when looking at the price point, APS does come out on top...

By the way, I am a big fan of chipping, as the results acheived in some turbo charged engines can be amazing..

Any opinions would be welcome...

Welcome Gio_1,

Agree with you aswell on the remapping, APS are having an A5/S5 meet shortly (beginning of june) which Ed may have mentioned to you, check the APS meet details in the UK forum.

I would be doing mine at the APS meet but i will only just be getting my car (i hope) and wont have done barely any miles so will have to wait untill i have sufficent miles on the clock.

Miltek should be releasing some aftermarket performance stuff sometime in the next 30years. Ed will likely know more than anyone here though.

I hear Star Performance in Fife is working hard on a re-map as we speak. They are VW and Audi specialists and have warned me off getting it done elsewhere. They say that because there is some kind of dual filter system within the exhaust sytem that an amateur remap or chip could be disastrous and they are working hard to overcome this issue and provide an upgrade which wouldnt affect the durability and viability of these filters.

Just some food for thought

MTM has developed a very good program for the Audi A5 3.0 TDI. They have new software, new brakes, new exhaust and even new 21" wheels.

This setup gives the 3.0TDI a total of 300bhp and as I can see this is the most any of the tuners provide. This requires their exhaust in addition to the new chip. Without the exhaust the numbers are 292bhp.

I would also recommend the brakes. They are 380mm!! Very cool...

There is a YouTube video of a A5 3.0TDI with the MTM setup:

Mtm

It is not chiptuning, it is additional box called Cantronic and it is little bit expensive.

Do you really already have Caractere body? It is the nicest thing I have seen for A5. It is not as vulgar as Riegger, and not so stupid as ABT. ;) I like it !

just read your post. I have chipped my 3.0tdi quattro sport. I used a powerklick plug and play chip. It gives me an extra 45 horses, and there is a noticable difference in performance and mpg. Chip costs £295, just visit www.powerklick.co.uk. Hope this helps mate

Anyone hazard a guess at what an additional 45hp and 80nm of torque would do for the performance?? How close/far away would it be from a stock S5?

I have to say, now I have around 3,500 miles on mine the engine just pulls like crazy. Second gear is a real treat... Just gets better!!

Since this is my first turbo diesel car and I've never modified any of my previous cars, I'm certainly interested, especially given the gains that can be made (and claims of improved fuel consumption - taken with a large pinch of salt!)

Most of the mods at present look like they either add an extra ECU box (MTM) or else permanently re-program it. However, I'm really looking for something like Superchip's bluefin device, whereby you just plug in a hand-held device and can later restore the original factory map prior to sending it in for service with Audi etc. I'm also a little wary of how this will affect my insurance, although if I shopped around, I'm sure I could find something reasonable.

I've emailed Superchips, and their reply was:
"Unfortunately we do not offer a modification for your vehicle at present.
The product is currently in development, however, no timescales for a product release are available at this time."

Hopefully something will be out soon...

Hi zodiacman, as far as I can see from the web of powerklick, the A5 3.0 TDI 240 CV engine is not listed, so you should take care of your chip because the A5 engine has a new EDC17 ECU that works in differents ways from the ones on A6 and A4 3.0 TDI...

It would be good if you put your car in a dyno to show us the results of your chip because I'm not very sure about it...
