My rear parking distance system has stopped working ?, my car only has the rear system, I have checked the fuse (ok), in the MMI it doesn't even let you adjust the vol etc but it is highlighted, I have tried a battery off power reset but no joy, is there a specific electrical control unit to replace or is it all controlled via a the main car computer control unit ?

Thanks............Mark

Hello,

  • Check your fuse list for parking aid (differ between model years).
  • Do you get a long (error) beep when changing to reverse gear?
If not, does your reverse light turn on in reverse gear?
* Touch lightly on each sensor, when active you should feel a repeating buzz.

Sensors are known to fail but I had a failure in the control module with similar signature as a broken sensor: An initial long beep and missing buzz from one sensor.

Reading out error codes (using for example VCDS) can give information on the failure.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the speedy reply, I will check the reverse lamp operation, I will double check the fuse but I checked the one it listed in the handbook, I verified it was the correct one by removing it and the option disables in the MMI, It doesn't even give the quick "beep" when going into reverse like it used to, I will check each sensor as you advised as well, you say there is a control module for this system, where is it located ?

Thanks...Mark

In the boot, I think it’s the left hand panel if memory serves me right. Another member can correct me if I’m wrong. But either way it’s in the boot left/right panel and it’s a black module next to a set of fuses.

I managed to buy a control unit off ebay, fitted it and still the same problem though.
