I agree with SAJ's reasoning (on paper only ... until tomorrow I've never sat in any A5 with the engine running).
But...
The 2.7 only comes with a multitronic gearbox which makes for an easier drive. At 200km per day that could be a big factor.
If you're comparing the 1.8T multitronic against the 2.7Tdi then things change. The cost of the 1.8T makes a big jump closer to the 2.7Tdi and the economy goes down. Factor in that the 1.8T doesn't come with the Xenons/DRLs in some markets and the 2.7 becomes the more attractive option.
