A5 2.0TFSI Oil Problem

Hello, I'm looking to buy this Audi A5 2.0TFSI 2009 126k km, with STAGE 1 CHIPTUNING (to 260hp) from a dealer and I can also get a 1-year warranty. I read about oil problems and I'm worried that tune may be done because of it. I really like the car but I'm not sure if it's any good. Should I still be interested or move on? What's the worst that can happen?

Don’t even bother touching any cars from 2009 to late 2011.

If you develop an engine oil issue, which is incredibly high, no warranty and complete engine rebuild to sort it.

Not worth the changing in my opinion!

edit: I owned a 2009 2.0 tfsi.... Audi WOULDNT even bother trying to resolve it...

this is rather un-nuanced.
I own an A5 2.0 TFSI MY2010, which developed the well-known oil-consumption.
after more than 10 years and 160.000 km Audi overhauled the engine, completely free of charge, including a courtesye ncar.
the key to this is: you must have a complete and full maintenance history.
and if you want to buy a used car of these years, you can always ask for proof of the engine being overhauled.

Personal experience. Also after the engine rebuild there’s still oil burning issues, albeit a lot less, but over my years of owning so many cars, they have never burned through any oil of that sort, not even close.

These are very risky engines and you should only purchase if the seller can provide evidence pistons were upgraded by main dealer and proper documents.
I bought a 2009 2.0i TFSI model back in Oct that had new engine fitted by Audi under warranty 32k miles and it a great car. But I would not go near one without the work done by Audi. If the garage is giving 1 years warranty this will give you time to check the oil consumption and if faulty return the car.

You also need to factor the suspension would be tired for that age. I replaced the front shocks and top mounts DIY last week and the drive is day and night. The old shocks were original with 90k miles on them and no rebound. I have the rear shocks and few front control arms in the shed and will replace when decent weather in UK.

There are not many choices of cars for that age. I have owned the a 2010 BMW 320i and find this A5 much better drive. Other option is a Merc C class and their petrol engine have their own faults. Or its a Japanese car and they bland

With any used car its down to the service history and how you maintain it going forward.

Apologies for revitalising an old post but I am currently in the midst of this issue and trying to get Audi to foot the bill but I am feeling a bit of a fight from Audi. Can you tell me which dealer you managed to get this car repaired? Any advice would help. Thanks

Your local Audi dealership is the best way, travelling hundreds of miles won't make a difference. You need a full audi service history and the initial oils consumption test done, then get the garage to raise the issue up with Audi UK or you go an call them. They may offer a large discount or maybe even foot the whole bill but if you search this forums it's mostly a hit but not always the whole bill.

But just to answer your question I got mine done at Audi Cheshire Oaks.

Thank you for your response. My car is in my local dealer Audi right now for the oil consumption test which they've asked me to pay for. Tried to resist a little bit but eventually, I agreed to pay the £280 bill for the test. But while they were resisting, they told me that they won't cover the bill because the policy is only for cars that are less than 10 years old. My car is now 10 years and 6 months old. I guess I will have to wait until they fail the test to see what I can do. (It will definitely fail). The reason I asked is because Fred44nl got his done when his car was older than 10 years and I know each dealer is different with this issue.
Push for them or donut yourself and call Audi UK if the car has full audi service then they're more inclined to help and give u discount!
