Sorry if this has been covered before but I justed wanted to know a little more about this Thermal Regulator (Thermostat) / Water pump leak issue I see a lot of A5 have. I live in Mexico and going to the dealership is not worth it and not always the best. I just wanted to see if someone can guide me on this. My local reapair shop (not Audi) mentioned that I have a leak from my waterpump/Thermosat area and to buy the parts at Audi and they can install.

The dealship mentioned I would need 2 parts 06L 121 012 L (water pump) & 06L 121 111 P (thermostat) but as I was searching online I see that the thermostat replacement part already comes with the water pump because when I search for the water pump serial # it shows up as the part that is already connected to the thermostat. (sorry if I am not clear).

Has someone gone through this situation before and can some let me know if with just the thermostat replacement is fine?

Hello and welcome to the forum! I do not have any advice or guidance for you concerning other parts necessary to replace the water pump and thermostat of your A5 other than choose the shop who will work on your car wisely. Make sure they are VW/Audi specialists that you trust. Otherwise, I suggest to just bite the bullet and send it to your Audi dealer. You will pay more but they have all the special tools and know-how to work on your car.

I have not heard of water pump leak issues with the B9 A5. This was a problem on the previous gen A4, A5, Q3, Q5 and other VW/Audi models with the 2.0L / 1.8L TFSI EA888 Gen. 2 engines.
