Stage 1 for the 3.0 supercharged engine is mostly about holding the bypass valve closed for longer and letting the boost reach it's natural limit rather than the one set my Audi. Any difference between tuners is then generally down to optimisation for higher octane fuel. What 034 estimate is reasonable, although worth noting that the real stock power is generally higher than Audi spec.

For the extra little cost, throw on a cts pulley and go stage 2, nets about 430HP at the motor. Performance wise it can get my A8L to 100kmh in 4.2 seconds (no need for a 4L turbo V8)
CTS pulley being the pulley on the supercharger??
Is it just a smaller pulley to allow for higher rpm of the supercharger? Does the drive belt need to be upgraded as well or does the tensioner have enough room to allow for the additional room on the smaller pulley> TIA

I just got this car 3 days ago and have always been an avid Audi driver since I got my first Audi Fox at 21 yrs old...now 58.
That would have had to have been 1984 or so and the Audi Fox handles very well. Then 4 yrs ago got a 2006 Cabriolet with the Quattro all wheel drive, 5 valves per cylinder, V6 with sport tranny....it had timing belts to be replaced at 75-85k....needed special cam lockdown tools for the job...paid 7.5k
Long and short the S5 has been on the bucket list for awhile and found one for 13K USD and got it w/ 94 k miles. Will sell the 2006 for 5k so net on the S5 is about 13-5 or 8k. I just recently ordered the manual for the S5....6000 pages ..good grief. Also ordered a oil dipstick as this model feeds back electronically the amount of oil in crankcase...umm I do not trust that as old school on this end. Ordered blinking LED taillights cause in the USA...when u get hit from behind the insurance companies just total the car and give you some ridiculous low amount as payoff. I also ordered some LED fog lights as stock does not seem to put much out.
I am at a loss on the rear camera not working..the backup sensors are audible .I think their is a module for it...A/C good yet heat not so good...topped off the coolant yesterday once engine settled will see. The 333 HP I gather is only with 91 or better octane...current setup still seems to allow 87 octane w/ 10%ethanol.. Once I install the chip mod I gather 91 or better octane only to not have engine knock...with in my view can be catastrophic to engine.
Lastly, the front head lights seem to have high and low beams out of one outlet and do fine with lighting up the road at night...there is another area on the front headlights that does not light....it is upper left of the right side headlight and upper right of the left side headlight...I am not sure if these are auxiliary lamps or feedback sensors for radar...anyone know?
Thanks for everyone's feedback, much appreciated.....2 days ago I di not even know what stages were on the ramp up for HP

Dippy,
are you saying the higher octane fuel is required for any tune...I do not understand

Responding to all the above

1) smaller pulley is bolt on mod, nothing else needed, it increases supercharger rpm (ie more air at given rpm = more power)

2) tune can be done for the standard octane fuel reccomended for your car (I run my A8 on 95RON here and get 430HP on stage 2).

3) stock power levels for 3.0T are controlled by the tune levels Audi pre program for different markets (Europe, Japan, UK, US etc). Tuning can unlock the maximum stock power BUT the main purpose over and above stage 1 tune is to tune specifically for more airflow (ie from single or dual pulley kits) and further bolt ons (exhaust, cold air intake, cams etc)

4) If you retain your cats and tune the car right, your emissions can actually improve with a custom tune specific for your car. Note your ECU will show TC1 with dealer scan which lets them know the cars ECU has been reflashed...can affect warranty if still applicable.

Note id reccomend a K&N filter in the stock airbox to help free up more air for the supercharger.

TBH the 3.0T with a pulley kit and intakeand stage 2 tune is pretty exciting for a daily, you are getting RS5 performance without having to pay for an RS5.

darn...k&n in original audi air filter box...I just ordered a cold filter, and remove the filter box...will advise
Thats even better :) just make sure you seperate the pod/cone filter from the enginbay somehow (otherwise youll suck warm air in). i used some dynmat sheets in the A8 and lined with silver / fiberglass exhaust heatwrap, with a foam edge to seal against bonnet. No aftermarket solutions for the A8 due to engine bay size, but this works

Stage 2 requires increasing the supercharger drive ratio, and this can be done in two ways:
Smaller supercharger pulley. Whilst this appears to be easiest, it's only bolt-on with the CREx engine supercharger. On previous engines it was press-fit so could only be removed and replaced by heating the pulley. If done properly this is fine, but if not 100% aligned it could cause belt problems. Also there is a limit to how small the pulley can be to avoid belt slip, which is a risk anyway.
Larger crank pulley. More effort to fit, but it is bolt-on and has no risk of belt-slip. But the biggest benefit is that the OE crank pulley is a point of failure risk if the damping polymer degrades enough to crack. It's not a common failure but neither is it rare. Fitting an aftermarket oversize pulley removes this risk.

A tune can advance timing to take advantage of higher octane fuel and get some extra power. It depends on cost and availability at your location, but consider that fuel efficiency can increase for "normal" driving.

Audi quoted 333HP for this engine. But when customers started putting cars on dynos they were seeing 350HP or more. That may be one of the reasons that when the facelift arrived in 2012 the s-tronic gearbox redline was reduced. At the same time the manual option was removed outside north America.

Clean engine on this thread....
The new camshaft pulley can be removed with a pulley remover and heat and smaller diameter can be bolted on? this means there is a threaded female hole on the SC shaft?

Any advice on spark plugs? this car 95 k miles and no mention in maintenance manual as to interval replacement.....other than the 2.0 L turbo.
\Would you buy the Audi coil remover or just make something comparable....guess silicone grease needed on reinstall to prevent sticking of coil in engine.

thanks for the feedback
any idea if pic below indicates a light on front end?
or is it a sensor?
Looks like a sensor, parking sensors usually in bumper, wonder if its something to do with headlight range control or cruise control ?

I didnt use a coil remover for the V6, needed one on my VR6 though, the coil pack tops are nice and accessible on the V6. In a pinch you can loop some para cord around and pull up firmly. Stock plugs will be platnium (Bosch or NGK). Only good for 90,000 kms or 7 years , If you've done 95,000 miles you are either on your second set or they are well and truely done.

Either way for a stage 2 tune with pulley id be getting some fresh ones (NGK Irdium or Bosch Platnium will do). Also at 95K miles I suspect the coil packs will be getting close as well, ie youll start getting misfires on one or 2 coil packs within the next 10-15k miles.

Based on all this though if you do plugs, coils, fresh filter, tune and pulley you will be shocked at how much extra power you will be getting :) plus much smoother engine.

RE: Pulley supplier, cant go wrong with CTS (Canada) or ECS Tuning (Multilpe brands including their own).

It's not on the camshaft, its on the supercharger rotor shaft.
Yes it can be removed with a puller. But the shaft is not threaded. The pulley is just held on by "thermal" clamping in that it can only be slid over the shaft when hot and the metal expanded. Once it has cooled it will be held in place.
In 2014 Audi had to upgrade the 3.0 TFSI engine to meet EU6 emission regulations, and these included a supercharger clutch with a bolt-on pulley. This engine was used in the A6 and some other models in north America but not in the S4 or S5.

CHIPWERKE works fine...easy mod...car somewhat quicker.
Now trying to run down issues with the backup camera
reseated the 2 connectors at camera module rear right trunk w/ no luck.
Oy then it seemed the trunk latch was not working only to find the valet button in the glove box was on ....cancelled the order for the trunk latch ON AMAZON..lol
Still need to put in the new air inlet filter
Will need to pull one of the spark plugs near term to ck their condition....no indication in maint log they have been replaced.

smaller pulley still has to have the ecu tined so it knows it can rev past stock limits and fuelling need to be touched to add extra for the revs
