I'm looking at selling my Boxster, (too expensive to run!) and buying the A5. Something tells me that the 2.7 diesal engine is the one to go for, but this is several thousands more than the 1.8 petrol engine but with not much difference in performance. There are loads of reviews on the web about the diesal engines but not much about the newer 1.8 petrol engine. Does anybody have any thoughts on the 1.8? Cheers

Well it depends on how long you will keep the car for. If you keep it for atleast 3 years and do about 18,000 - 20,000 miles a year then you will maybe get the money back from the diesel.

If not then the 1.8 TFSI might be the one to go for as there isn't much in the mpg between them.

--------------- 1.8 TFSI ------------- 2.7TDI
Urban --------- 28.5mpg ------------- 30.7mpg
Extra Urban --- 51.4mpg ------------- 53.3mpg
Combined ----- 39.8mpg ------------- 42.4mpg

Also one thing to remember on the 1.8 you will have to spec Xenons (at about £750 i think) which will even make the price gap smaller between the two cars.
