2016 S5 3.0 supercharged 7 spd DSG, no NAV, 34,700 miles. I purchased used about six months ago from Benz dealer with factory warranty remaining until NOV 2019. First of all, are there any popular failures I should look out for before the warranty runs out? I already had the water pump done, I don't think they did the thermostat, takes longer for this car to warm up than my F-250! Sometimes on a cold day with heat running it takes VERY LONG for temp to reach center mark on gauge. Are thermostats a problem on this engine? Question 2: Is it possible to set parameters to allow engine to run with doors locked from outside? (for warm up) Question 3: How much of a "tune" can this transmission handle in ft/lbs? I don't want to reduce the life of the trans. Question 4: What sort of "pump" is running for about 10 or 15 seconds on a cold start, it seems a bit noisy? Thank you guys for any help.

1. Are Thermostats a problem in this vehicle?
No, even the water pump is not known to prematurely fail (at 35k miles). But, wear and tear due to it being operated in a hot
climate will shorten its life. Do you know where the car spent its early life? Out in the desert?

In the future, it is best to have the thermostat done along with the water pump.

2. Is it possible to set parameters to allow engine to run with doors locked from outside? (for warm up)
Don't think so. I am a member of three Audi forums including this one. I have not read of anyone doing it or able to use
VCDS to do it. It was simply not designed like that. Extended warm-ups burn lots of fuel and introduce more carbon
emissions to the atmosphere. From what I know, Europeans don't warm-up their cars the way North Americans do it.

4: What sort of "pump" is running for about 10 or 15 seconds on a cold start, it seems a bit noisy? Thank you guys for any help.
No clue. Mine's quiet. However, I suspect it is a fuel pump building up the fuel line pressure which my VW GTI MK6 does.

Yeah not really many common problems with the S5!

It should warm up quite quickly, so maybe get the stat changed.
Not sure if the petrol is simialr to the V6 diesel, but on mine the main stat was fine, it was the EGR cooler that was the problem! Crappy design!
Not sure if the petrol has an EGR cooler!?
There is also supposed to be another stat for the auto boxes.

After replacing my EGR stat it did warm up quicker and didn't drop temp in the winter downhill.

In response to your Q about the gearbox, they are rated at 600NM, but usually when you get a remap and/or pulley upgrade, the mapper should also remap the TCU to increase oil pressure and raise torque limits to allow the tuned output to go through the box.

Stage 3 normally sees around 525bhp and 460ft/lbs!!

Yamaha R6 - for when the weather is good. But in the UK, this limits me to 500 miles a year!

New chirping noise

Thanks for the info guys...now a new question: I have a chirping noise from the engine that was very noticeable this morning, sounded like a loose belt tensioner, no time to check it further. Then after work I stuck my head under the hood and it seems more like valve train noise under the left valve cover. Any issues there? It is still under warranty and is going to the dealer Friday, but I don't want them to brush me off saying everything is OK. Only 7 months left on the warranty.

It's difficult for use to diagnose, unless someone has had the exact same thing. Dealer or specialist is the only way if you don't know.
