Swirl flaps

Just wondering if anyone has any info on the 'normal' movement of the motor arm is, distance etc.

As now on ebay you can get brackets to attach to the motor to keep the motor arm operating within it's normal range and avoid the P2015 error code, this stops the motor going beyond the 'normal' values. I occasionally get this on mine (I broke a bit of the plastic stop off that stops the cam on the valve rod turning too far ), the motors and flaps are working, but suspect the Bank 1 motor goes beyond it's normal value/limit. I think when it realises it does this, the ECU stops the motor from working and I have to manually move the arm, then it springs into life. Only seems to stop working when left overnight and the weather is cold!?

Here are the brackets https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-VW-P...14fd%7Ciid%3A1

Or I may just get the brackets

Garage
Hi Dave...I've got P2015 and P2016 up at the moment. The local garage did a temp fix on it but need to get the repair kit such as this one as the temp fix only lasted 2 months:

I've ordered the brackets!

Hoping these will stop the P2015 code! I haven't had the MIL on for a while as each time I drive the car I check the operation and that the motor is in the correct position for idle, if not I just manually intervene and move the motor arm and it flicks into the correct position.

They work perfectly apart from this, so hoping the brackets keep it in check.

Yeah, it was on mine, they were replaced by a dealer but Bank 1 flap shaft ball joint wasn't replaced, probably because it's fiddly to change, so the link bar kept popping off. So I changed that flap shaft ball joint, but when removing the spring clip I knocked off the plastic stop tab with a screw driver on the inlet manifold, so now the swirl flaps will do an almost 360 degree turn!! Hence the P2015 code and wanting the brackets so it will only operate in the normal arc distance.

Only the stops in the motor prevent the flap turning more than it is supposed to!

I have glued some plastic stops into the motor to 'limit' the flap travel or get it into spec, but without looking at another 3.0 TDi, I'm not sure what the arc distance is, so ordered the brackets!
