Best solution for updating NAV

I see two possible solutions for upgrading the NAV on my 2015 A5. The US maps are pretty old at this point.

First is to update the car's native NAV system. I have read that this requires a dealer visit which means very expensive. Meanwhile I see update DVD's on eBay for less money, but I don't know if they will work with my car. Is the eBay solution viable? If so, what should I look for?

Second, is to get some sort of adapter that will allow me to use CarPlay and mirror Waze on my NAV screen, which I know is doable, but again, I'm confused about what I need. I see that there are wired and wireless solutions on AliExpress and I want something that is as simple to install as possible. Although I have an iPhone, I'm only interested in using Waze. Can anybody educate me on what to look for?

I'm updating my maps to 2018 next Friday (hopefully).
I ordered some SD card from ebay.
If they work OK I'll let you know.
I'm willing to send you a copy of the software and instructions etc., for a minimal fee.
(This offer goes to everyone else ).

I updated my firmware and maps to 2018/2019 and got them from an eBay seller. I got 3 SD cards, 1 for firmware and 2 for maps. They came with Audi labels on them and all went according to plan. The seller was great and answered any questions I had. No regrets at all.

I'm a little hesitant about the eBay offerings because they don'y specifically list compatibility for a 2015 A5. Although, I would assume that they're all probably the same.

Before I bought the seller asked for photos of my current firmware and nav software which you access through the MMI. He also asked for registration of car. This means you will get the right items for your car. He wouldn’t even sell me them without knowing this info.

Searched unsuccessfully for VAG-Technic on eBay. Maybe you got a one off.

Does anybody know what the latest version available is? Should it be labeled as 2018? And are the updates all the same regardless of model e.g. A5 = Q5 = etc?
?

www.vag-technik.co.uk

From my look on e-bay there seem to be two reputable sellers and vag-technik seems to be preferable (to me at least). I'll probably do mine later this year.

Carplay all the way. Using Waze or Googlemaps negates any worry of ever not having the most up to date maps or traffic ever again. Not to mention the countless other safety benefits from being able to control your phone using native controls.

I've got MMI 3G+ which is now entirely redundant in favour of carplay.

Aside from any road layouts that have changed, what do you actually get from the upgrades?

Easier integration of your phone apps on the cars screen. Waze traffic routing vastly superior to the laggy TMC stuff with up to the minute info on road conditions .. hazards etc...

Avoids you having your phone stuck to your dash or windscreen ..
