Thanks for the clarification Morski.

Aint it ironic though that Audi charge us £60-£90 per hour (dependent on where you live) for your pride and joy to be worked on by a qualified specialist with umpteen hours of training, yet they are 'guided' through the bits that they can and can't touch.

Conversely here we - untrained enthusiasts (okay maybe a bit of genalisation but you know what I mean) playing around with the intricate binary codes on our £30-40K motors with conviction that we're not going to screw it up!!!

Cheers

No worries K,

£60 per hour??? I thought they were all knocking on the door of £90+ per hour and vat these days?
Yep these techy's have a set routine and procedure to follow. I had a steering angle sensor fault on my S a while ago; the techy came out plugged in his VAS system and basically followed the instructions given on the screen to the letter. Even (no offence) my 5 year old nephew would have followed those instructions without any question!
Next, next next... ok sir lets get the steering angle sensor replaced because my VAs is telling me to say that!

I think its because we have 'our' money invested in these cars rather than taking a wage from working on them regardless of whether we like them or not

Yeh, sad to say, but gone are the days of true engineering and fault diagnosis, now its just blindly following a computer screen and swapping component modules.

Hope that S5 of yours is going to get out of the snug garage soon now the weathers getting warmer.

Cheers

Cosimicblue - What is you current coding?

Let's see if we can get this working. I'm just back from a weekend in Wales, and I love the voice stuff whilst driving, although still trying to learn the commands.

Cheers,

Hi Gary

Thanks for the note, in short I don't know, the dealer offered my notes with the current coding written on it for me to take away, it seemed academic so I declined and they binned it.

Should have read the rest of the thread I guess

From memory, it took a couple of language flips to get it to hook, but it was a bit of a rush job.

I assume there is a minimum amount of "Audi options" to have before this works for non-phone stuff? For example I assume I would not be able to control my radio/media etc if I enabled it?

Chris, think this is one for Loc.

But if you need a man with a cable - then I'm here.

I'm tied up for the next couple of weeks, belated mother's day this weekend, and a run into France next weekend. Plus I've got to take a man for spin in a S5 Cab'.

My car already had this same bit set to "1" from the start (so from factory). No SDS possible however (pressing the steering wheel button results in "No function" message on DIS). Changing it back to "0" and then again to "1" (and in the mean time changing MMI languages) does not result in anything.

Pity, Hope somebody comes up with the real solution for this.

(BTW: in the hidden menu I see SDS OFF also in main/config)

Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now and thought I'd best get registered so I can tap into this awesome resource of very knowledgable people

My good lady is now the proud owner of an A5 Cab S Line, in silver with the lovely 19" alloys - and very pleased she is too.

Following the "why doesn't this button on the steering wheel work?" query, my journey led me to all of you an this thread...

So I just wanted to say hi really and check what else was possible with the VCDS cable beyond enabling SDS - I'm still trying to convince myself that $349 at whatever exchange rate is a worthwhile purchase...

Keen to see the full instructions on the SDS process though...

Best regards,

T

Unfortunately theres then a $51 postage to these shores + VAT - so you're slightly (I hope) better off buying from one of the UK suppliers - I've just bought one from Gendan - since they are the only one you can buy online on - at about £26x inc VAT and P&P - got a fed-ex tracking no in the post.

But please don't buy the VCDS/VAGCOM cable alone for enabling SDS! I did several mods as posted on this forum, and all seem to work EXCEPT this one (up til now), it seems just a lucky shot of a guy who bought a seperate MMI 3G and recoded it. For Cab owners, probably more is needed to get it working.

Ah okay, many thanks

If I can find other useful things that I can do with the VCDS then I might still buy it and take my chances trying to make the SDS work.

Is there a single thread on "all the cool things you can do with VCDS"? Or are they all scattered?

Cheers,

T

So went out to do this mod today. The guide states to change coding module 5F to e.g. 01010001010681ED01002B1E000000010000 where the underlined number was changed from 0 to 1 will enable the speech dialogue system that is normally disabled in Cabriolet.

I think I have encountered a similar to HAWKiS5. I already have a '1' in the position that the guide suggests to change in my MY10 cab.

Also the overall coding above is somewhat different, as the pic below shows my module reads out as: 010101030206E1ED01000B1E000000010100

Name:	Module 5F (MY10 A5 Cabriolet).jpg
Views:	32
Size:	62.9 KB

Have cross checked other sites, Audizine, etc, but have drawn a blank. Anyone else got any ideas?

Cheers

Default Confirmation: Stock 2010 A5 Cab (US Version)

Just for the record, I was able to enable voice control with less than 20 minutes work using the information posted here.

Thanks everyone!

This was on a stock 2010 A5 Cab with factory installed bluetooth and navigation - US market version.

I can even voice dial the phone with the top down, although it's hard for the receiving party to hear me.

- Jim

Really confused now.
Is it possible therefore to activate the voice control in a UK cab with 3g mmi and bluetooth prep ?

Yes! I certainly understood so, GaryWilliams did it on a car identical to mine pretty much.

Yes, it should be. But read through this whole thread for the coding trials and tribulations. It is possible that we don't know everything yet and some luck is needed as well...

As for which cable and more codes and notes on VAG COM, see my list:

Just changing bit-5 from 0 to 1 is NOT the solution. Apparantly most cabrios already have this bit set to 1 and changing it to 0 does not help and changing it back to 1 also.

So, please editorchi...........what did YOU do to make it work?

I'm having the same problem as Mulski, the bit that they say to change from 0 to 1 is already set to 1.

Has anyone enabled this in the UK? If so, could you please post your long coding from VCDS?

Fuzz, check out this thread: http://www.a5oc.com/forums/showthrea...x.html?t=11466

GaryWilliams who has a UK S5 Cabrio posted exactly what you are after.

P.S. I need to get on this soon too!

I'm sure you like me have a rather comprehensive list of VC changes that you want to look at. Offer still stands for meeting up with VC changes upon arrival of my A5 Cab in T-Minus 10 days!

Trouble is the relevant bits of the long coding are the same as on other cabs (including mine). It appears there is something else that needs to be activated to therefore make voice control work which is so far unknown.

Andy, it probably sounds like a good plan, although please excuse me but you'll have to remind me whereabouts you are based? The only thing I really really want setup right now is the Voice Control, others on my list would be nice, but aren't quite so necessary, but I imagine it would need to be on a weekend sometime.

Also I remember you work pretty near me, if you want to have a "live" look at the car and play with things/be taken for a drive before yours arrives, you are more than welcome after work or something one day.
