Yes, I am def now going to get VAG-COM cable rather than relying on the goodwill of others, not that thats be a problem - quite the opposite actually. Soon as its received and done I'll let you know.

Cheers

Looking forward to hearing that its worked on a cab , I would give it a go now except I have to use someone elses cable and rely on their goodwill and lap top , I need to recode all the things that were reset after the gearbox update so will give it a try in the next few weeks.

Picked up my S5 cab' at lunch today and have just finished the VCDS coding and can confirm that I now have SDS.

However my coding didn't quite follow the instructions, I already had the identified bit set, but I also had a further bit set to 1 - changed this to a 0 and got myself voice recognition.

Congrats Gary - any chance of a step by step guide for the rest of us?

Cheers

Yeah, no problems - Had issues with the ambient lighting too, so hopefully I'll get some time at the weekend to sort that, and get some mod's to the existing instructions.

Also want to get the remote roof opening sorted too - I know I can do it, but hopefully we can get it sorted for the rest of the cab' owners.

But mainly I'm just going to enjoy having my cab' back

Will be great to get the voice control working......let us know the exact procedure.

BTW: remote closing/opening of the roof is already working standard with my car (as described in the manual, just press the close/open button on the key fob twice and hold it)

HAWKiS5 - I think it only works on Advanced Key spec'ed cars. However in all probability it's a simple VCDS recoding to allow everyone to remotely open/close the hood.

Definitely possible, for phone voice control (Bluetooth low only supports voice commands for certain phone functions), although it is a different coding than with MMI 3G. Read here:

Is it possible to enable voice control/speech dialogue system in an Audi cabriolet?

Hi Guys

Don't mean to HiJack the thread but wondering if I can get some clarifcation.

I've just ordered my Audi A5 Cab 2010 S-Line and I ordered it with Bluetooth Prep Standard (£255 option) and I've got the Tech Pack High (MMI 3G) with Cruise Control.

I did notice the voice button on the steering wheel when I test drove a few but never actually tried it. Does this mean that chances are when I get the car Voice control will be disabled (other than basic voice tags?).

So if I get a VAG-Com set (which I think I will do) I could "potentially" enable a bigger feature set of voice control via the change Javii posted?

Many thanks

Andy

Oh, I'm loving that. Great work for those who figured it out.

Do you/we know what extra 'functions' this actually gives us? Is it just extra phone controls, or actual voice controls for the MMI system itself?

A.

Andy, currently using it my cab' You can switch between different MMI modes Radio/Media/Nav/Telephone - use command like Navigate to ..., zoom in/out of the map, next tract previous track - etc, etc. I've got to say I'm reasonably impressed - I have had one or two hiccups - dial a number when I said something else - and the very nice young lady has said Pardon? a fair few times.

Hi Gary

Many thanks for that. Did you carry out the Vag-Com change then to enable it? Was it just as Javii has posted (changed the 0 to 1 and changing language to something else, then back to English?)

I was wondering if it had a command you had to say first that the car would recognise that you were then going to say a command, or is it just press the button on the steering wheel, then speak?

Much appreciated

Andy.

p.s. Liking the idea of a lady (gud' mornin') saying pardon to me on the way to work...

Andy, It wasn't quite that simple - the bit that was identified as a 0 was set to a 1. I'm not sure what mine was set to but it was something like 01010001010681ED01002B1E000000010100, so I changed mine to 01010001010681ED01002B1E000000010000 and set the bit that I had set as 1 to a zero.

I think that's as clear as mud. In essence I made sure my last 6 bits matched what was posted.

I did the language swap and away I went.

Hopefully, Mulski can confirm the original code on his A5 when his cable arrives and it'll confirm this.

Cheers,

Gary

Gary

Understood. I guess it could be (as you say) matching up the end string of the longcode.

Much appreciated chaps. Cheers

Happy to confirm the coding once I get the cable. Prob wont be till end Mar as I'm buying the cable through a Group Buy that has a final payment date of 15th, so suspect it'll be a couple of weeks after that before it turns up.

Cheers

Here you go; Chris_B (from this forum) raised this opportunity here on post #3; Thanks Chris.

http://www.a5oc.com/forums/showthrea...ighlight=group

Direct link to the group buy is here: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/151...roup-buy-2010/

You'll need to register on the site first and probably pay by bank transfer to make the 5pm 15th March deadline.

Cheers

Bad news, certainly as far as my car is concerned it didn't work - I had a 1 from the factory in that position, was changed to a zero and the language changed, and then back again - didn't make any difference. Grrrrr!

Cosmic, are you doing the changes via VAG-COM or are you getting the dealer/someone else to do it?

Cheers

Dealer so would have been VAG.com - Listers in Stratford-upon-Avon, printed everything I could find on the Web and took that in as well, the Audi tech had a really thorough go at it for more than an hour.

They were very supportive and were evidently interested in getting it to work too.

I have toyed with buying the RossTech cable and CD, but have heard too many tales of people making a dogs breakfast of their cars to want one myself - and do bear in mind the first 16 years of my career were in the retail end of the motor industry and the last 22 have been in IT!

I'm not 100% sure of this, so don't shout if its is indeed wrong, and I have no 'direct' experience as I am still awaiting my cable, However, based on two independent comments I understand dealers don't use the VAG-COM system we guys get buy through Ross Tech but an company provisioned Audi version of the same system and apparently - according to feedback - the Audi system does not have the same level of adaption that you can get via the 'independent' VAG-COM system, which may be the cause of the issue.

I am sure someone will either tell me this is bo**ocks or confirm it either way.

Cheers

I honestly don't know the answer Mulski, I note from the RossTech website (which is very good) that a lot of the screens have an 'Advanced' button and the documentation offers dire warnings that things could go pear shaped for the unwary.

It might not be that bad, but I guess that they have a constant fear of litigation because some numpty has gone 'click happy' in their software and has retaliated with the 'you could have told me' .

I'm mindful that RossTech's core market is the professional motor trade so I'm in no doubt that their kit is absolutely proper stuff.

The dealers use a completely different system from the vag com/vcds They use VAS which has different screens altogether. The VAS system uses more of a 'guided' system whereas the vcds deals with the nitty and gritty. VAS can no doubt probably access a lot of the coding we see and flick to make changes but they're access isnt as open and easy to find as the vcds.
