Did you change the settings in nthe hidden menu?

Activate Audi drive select individual in MMI:
for MMI 2G go to secret menu and in Diag settings, Car menus maske, check Carisma and go down to Accept changes.
(I don't know how it is for MMI 3G and non nav cars)
Restart MMI.

Actually i have radio concert, so no hidden menu is available. I think there is no way to enable hidden menu in concert version. I do not have 07 module at all (control head?).

Do you think there is any advantage of leaving as it is now? Before setting bits, channels 63,64,65,66 showed they don't exist. After setting the bits, channels are enabled. All of them were at value 2. I changed to 3.

I just observed that faults are in different mileage, so do not count at radio fault, this is probably when i enabled battery meter, and i left it grayed out for 1 day. Then i enabled it completely (and works) changing the appropriate bits.

I guess it wouldn;t be a problem - assuming you are in Dynamic mode all the time. Have you noticed the steering being a little more heavy or gearshifts more responsive (if yours is a tiptronic?)?

Steering at low speed is very light (as it was - i need to fix that through alignment settings) ok it stiffens as speed increases but not dramatically. I think engine is more responsive, or it only in my mind. hehe.

Concerning hidden menu in radio concert, there is no need trying to find how to enable it. Simple, whatever you want to do, it can be done directly through VCDS, that's my opinion, correct me if i am wrong.

If you do not have Drive Select can you adjust steering? It's too light and lacking in feel at low speeds.

That lacking in feel fortunately KW did help. But it is still light. I can adjust through VCDS steering stiffness with the well known code of tightening steering. But is too much at low speeds. What exactly do you mean to adjust steering, do you have another way? I do not have ADS.

Yep - here: http://a6retrofit.tripod.com/articles/a5vagcodes.html

Tighten the steering: Macuser reported on AudiZine.com that by coding in 09 - Cent. Elect. the byte 07 from 01 to 00 (that is, turn off/set to 0 the bit 0 in byte 7) will tighten/stiffen the steering considerably. As with the TPMS coding above which affected the ABS unit, a word of serious warning because this affects systems relating to control of car. This coding was apparently found by accident, nobody in public seems to know what it really does and how. It might adversely affect your car's control, warranty and/or break it, for all we know. So try at your own risk, with care and outside of open roads. Follow the story here: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=341174 and http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...278256&page=12.

Yep i had this setting for a week or so, it 's ok, but for higher speeds. it gives a better feeling , but it is not for everyday driving. I will enable it again when going to have some trip or so...

Interesting code. It is for manual cars too or tiptronic only?

UPDATE!!!

I chatted with Chris tonight as he had some trouble with the coding. We found a way to show 4 options in the MMI (not just engine). Here's the (additional) coding:

Byte 8, bit 2, change 0 to 1 (Display Engine in MMI)
Byte 8, bit 3, change 0 to 1 (Display Steering in MMI)
Byte 8, bit 4, change 0 to 1 (Display Suspension in MMI)
Byte 8, bit 5, change 0 to 1 (Display Sports Diff in MMI)

This enables you to modify each of these seetings independently via MMI.

Enjoy!

Coding 09-Central electric:

for carisma engine only
Byte 7, bit 5, change 0 to 1
Byte 8, bit 2, change 0 to 1
Byte 17, bit 7, change 0 to 1

After this coding channels 63 - 66 are enabled (before this they are not available)

[09 – Cent. Elect.]
[Security Access - 16]
[Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 63
change to 04

[Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 64
change to 04

[Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 65
change to 04

[Adaptation - 10] -> Channel 66
change to 04

4 = Individual

So, when we previously changed byte8, bit2, we only had some more throttle response from engine? And not the other three options?

I do not mean only to have it in the display, but also as an improvement for us without ADS.

Yes - I think so. We definately didn't see the options on MMI. Remember, the suspension and Sports Diff won't work unless you have them fitted...

So, if i change Byte 8, bit 3, from 0 to 1 , do you think there will be any change at steering? Hmm if so, it's interesting...

Yep, i ll inform you if something changes...Ok i understand that now all options are being dispalyed in MMI. But do you believe the behavior of steering will be altered? Thanks for your info!!!

Before changing byte 8, bit3, did you notice on your car your other options were at auto or individual that you have set it? (not in the screen, at driving conditions...)

looks like I'll be ordering my vagcom cables after seeing this......quick questions though...(Audi A5 3.2L Tip MMI 3G), I do not have Drive Select.....but can I have it so that if i put my car in Drive(D) its the regular comfort settings or whatever, and then when I shift it to (S)(whatever the stands for, excuse my ignorance lol) have it so that everything is in Sport or Dynamic or whatever the best setting for "racing" would be?? Or would I have a new menu in my MMI that I would just select from....

(also, once I get my cables if anyone in the New York area wants to meet up and mess around with all this vagcom stuff that'd be nice, I'd rather not just mess up my car alone ) or if someone would want to walk me/us through the process over the phone that'd be awesome lol

p.s. Which Vag-Com cables do I get? And where should I buy from? Was just on the Ross website, no idea what I'm doing lol

This is the cable you need: http://www.ross-tech.com/Merchant2/m...tegory_Code=IC

No way to make "S" default to particular settings (but in theory, sport quicken gearshifts and throttle response and increased RPM anyway).

I'm happy to help you but am In Virginia.

Well after working with the codes with Zee (thanks again man, your great!) We were able to unlock engine, steering, suspension and sport diff all selectable!
Your coding should look like this, well I have an S4 so hopefully it works for everyone
Byte 7- 00100001
Byte 8- 00111100
Byte 17-10011101
And the result!

Well just took a quick drive and all I can say is WOW! I have a manual and the shifts are just sooo much smoother but the power just floods in! The steering is tighter too taking away a bit of that "artificial" feel. I would have bought the cable for this mod alone! Thanks for all the help guys, and especially you Zee!

Just to make sure here. Drive Select (except the suspension) is inherent in all 3G A5. This mod enables it whether you ordered the option or not?

Also, there has been discussion about screwing up the Nav and losing data. Anyone still concerned about that?

Correct. Looks like it's in the ECU and able to be unlocked.

I think there is still a risk with losing data (especially if you hit bootloader in the hidden menu), but if you're very careful with following instructions, you should be golden.

You guys have done good. So, I'm not sure what the techs check when you bring it in for service but how likely would they to run across the changes in the menu or even feel the difference in a test drive?

No idea. They shouldn't be able to tell a difference if you leave the settings in default. I know my dealership knows about all my mods, because I tell them. In fact, when I go in on Friday to have my ARB and grill installed, they'll want to see this in action. They show all the mechanics who are amazed at the stuff unlocked. As long as I'm sensible, and don;t break anything, they are as pasionate and excited as I am...
