Retro fit Auto Dimming Rear View mirror

When I ordered my S5, I opted for the Premium Plus instead of Prestige. About the only thing I really miss from previous cars is the Auto Dimming rear view mirror. Has anyone tried or know of a DIY article on retrofitting an auto-dimming mirror to a premium plus S5?

Very, very difficult. There are guys on the AZ forums in their B8 A4/S4's trying to do this, and its somewhere in the region of $1k to $2k. New mounts, mirrors, wiring and coding. Just not cost effective - smarter to just have your windows tinted...

I concur!

Went to my local dealer here in UK and was quoted....wait for it...£2200!! Wiring, modules, labour etc...

When the guys finally picked me up off the floor...I went home to bed. :-)

TINT THE CAR DUDE!!!

Ouch. With that kind of money, I should save it for getting ECodes instead.
It's a damn shame that leave such a basic feature out on an almost $60K car really. I had it in my previous 2 cars (Infiniti G35 & Nissan 350Z), both of which were under $40K.

.....Getting Tint & Clear Bra on the car this weekend. We shall see how much improvement that makes.

Are you talking about the interior mirror only or the outside ones as well...

The interior mirror i think its just a swap...plug n' play!

Yes. I'm looking for just the interior one. Getting the car tinted right now with 35% back & 55% side. Let's see how it works out.

I'll check with the dealership on the interor mirror next week as well.

it is actually a simple process and takes less than 1 hour to complete and you can either purchase from Kufatec in Germany who will sell you a complete mirror and cable for approx $200.

I changed my own to an auto dimming and with an electronic compass on my A5 3.0 TDI Quatro in less than 30 minutes there are instructions availible at:
