Question One Touch Roof for the A5 Cab

Evening,

I've been searching around and all I can find is one american video clip on YouTube that shows the A5 Cab being retracted with just one click on the roof button in the console. Then 1 click to bring it back to cover the car again.

In the A5 Cab's Ive test drove recently you have to hold the button down until the roof is completely finished doing its business before letting go, but this shows different. I can only assume this is an aftermarket mod or a VC change?

Anyone any ideas? Surely it would be much better to do it this way, as I cant think of a valid 'safety' reason to "hold" the button to complete the job?

Cheers

Andy

If it was one click you wouldn't be able to stop it once it started, thus preventing the easy way to clean the inside of the rear window.

Cheers

Agreed. As well as being able to treat the rubber seals to stop squeaks etc. It is also a safety feature as well. You can release the switch in an emergency to stop the operation. It drops in seconds anyway, so it not a great hardship to hold on to it. The only mod I would like is to drop the windows all the way down as part of the roof retraction process. That would be good. By default they either stay partially open or return to the closed position if you hold the button beyond the beep!

Yep, suppose that is a valid point... and 15 seconds aint that long to wait.

Surely the windows could be VC'd.... ?

I’d like a VCDS coding for one touch, handy when you’re in the car – although I agree with the advantage from a cleaning perspective of so a MMI On/Off would be good.

My MkII TT had one touch drop, but hold for close – guess that was a safety feature.

Hmmm, maybe we could find a way to VCDS the button for one touch open, but hold to close then...

or maybe I'm just being a picky plonker.

This place do a 'module' for One Touch Open and Close, but its only (at least so it seems) for the A4 Cabriolet.

The Youtube video you are referring to is an aftermarket product. If you google/search for "mods4cars" you can check it out. It gives you other features too. I recently helped my father-in-law install one in his new 911S cabrio. Great directions and easy to install.

The only possible solution would be to drop the windows first using the center console switch. Then drop the roof and release the switch when the system beeps (i.e. the roof has completed the process). Not ideal but...

The one touch roof control for the A5 I found here has a Window option mate

https://www.wit-usa.com/sms/shop/ind...ew&idlistpos=2

link may not work and you may need to traverse the site manually.

Some Features:

Separate window control - Raise and lower the windows separately by remote without activating the top."

One-Touch power convertible top - "One-Touch" convertible top operation allows your top to open or close automatically.

Chirp-signal function - When locking and/or unlocking the car, the horn sounds briefly if desired.

Hazard Signals - Optionally the hazard blinkers are activated while top is operated from the remote.

Designed for: Audi A5 Convertible Model Year 2009+
E13 Certification: E13 10R - 03 10070
Standby Power: < 0.1mA
InstallAID™ LED: YES

Seems good, but 299 Euros

A.

EDIT: Its on ebay too: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Smart-top-Smar...item5d27760e99

I read in some thread that if you have the advanced key there's an ability to drop the top with the remote. This ability is what's most appealing to me. If this module enables that for those without the advanced key then it's worth it. The one I installed works great!

Indeed, with Advanced Key it works with the remote (opening and closing), but also here you have to keep the button (on the remote) pressed, if you release it, it stops.

I saw someone saying if you have AK (which I have ordered.. phew!) then you can do it on the remote, but like you say you need to hold the button down... still prefer the 1-touch option...

may look into this mod once I get the car...

Not interested pulling my new motor to bits to install a "mod". I can live with holding the button!

I read the installation instructions recently, and to me who's hardly a DIY guy, it did not seem very complicated, just a couple of plugs in the boot.

I have paid extra for an extended warranty though, and I don't want to give them the excuse not to honour it if I need to make a claim! A year after I bough my A4 Cab I wanted to add a CD multi-changer to the glove-box. Audi wanted 600 quid plus labour to do it. I said I'll get it done somewhere else and they replied that if the electronics failed they would not be covered by the warranty if I did! So I did not bother...

Tony, as PM, but for others to see, I 100% guarantee that the UK Advanced Key model opens remotely by a triple press of the unlock button and then holding it.

I can also confirm this since getting my Cab on Friday. For me, it works as stated in the manual. You need "Convience Key" option (aka Advanced Key) and (assuming the roof is closed/up) its 1 click to unlock the car, then hold down the unlock button again within 2 seconds and the roof will open. Hold the button down until fully open.

The exact reverse for closing the roof.

Any chance someone can please provide those of us in the USA with the VAG-COM coding to enable the key fob to put the blasted top up and down? I've coded the windows to do this but the top would be a nice add. Thanks!!

if you've ever pulled into a multi storey car park, parked up and proceeded to raise your roof and realised as it goes up that it's going to hit the ceiling you'll really appriciate the 'hold button' anyways is life that bad having to hold a button for 16 seconds or whatever!

I've got in the habit of doing it whenever without thinking, normally as I leave my garage I do it while maneovering out, or when I get home it's coming back down when I'm parking.

Although if you have a passenger, they love doing it!

So is this your latest chat up line then Tim; "would you like to come and lower my hood?"

Cheers
