Default DRL's aren't the same brightness???

So I notice, and had a friend confirm, that the LEDs on the passanger side are a brighter blue then the LEDs on the drivers side, it's pretty slight but deffinitly a differance, has anyone else noticed this kind of issue on thier cars?

I haven't really noticed that. But it could well be the fact that lights on the driver's side are less bright in order not to blind the card driving in the opposing direction.

Check to see what happens, if you change the MMI settings: There is a setting which adapts the Xenon lights for driving in left hand side countries.

Although you are in America and I don't know if these traffic rules apply to America as well.

PS: Oh.. And when the turning indicators are on, the LEDs on the side you are turning will dimm. But that is again the European model...

You can change the setting under Car > Setting > Exterior lighting > Headlamp Converter.

Not sure though if the US models have this fitted; don't think so.

Dealer has confirmed that the lights are indeed a different color/brightness...... Service has never seen this issue before, as well as I have never heard of it happening either (from this site anyways)...maybe they'll just have to upgrade me to an S5 at their cost (Ibis White S5 V6t convertible in Showroom is pretty nice!)

Dealer is calling Audi, offering little hope about this being fixed, I was told they could order a new headlight but they don't know which color/brightness it would be

No one seems to be following this at all but I gave a call to Audi of American and they called the dealer just to make sure they were doing everything they could as quickly as they could-less then 3 hours later they called and with be taking the headlight out of one of the new vehicles and putting it in mine.....hopefully the issue is a headlight issue and not an electrical one

Good news. I have read about this issue before (someone else had the same problem) and if I recall correclty, the dealer ordered new headlights for them. Hope your replacement matches...

Angry

sooooo they "changed" both headlights, drove home (2 miles away) checked my lights and surprise surprise the issue is still there........so I drove back and they agreed that the lights were still different (they couldn't check after they installed the lights????) well anyways, so we checked the car that my lights supposedly went to (real nice of them to try and screw someone else over right?) and sure enough those lights are now fine, perfectly matched....meaning the issue is definitely not a headlight issue, but something "more serious" as the manager put it. So they will be contacting Audi Monday morning to see what steps to take next.

I will say that the dealership appears to be doing everything they can, and I have no complaints as of yet. They have been very accommodating....Still angry about the situation and just hope that the next step will be rectifying the issue and not feeding some line that the lights are close enough to be considered acceptable (as the representative from Audi of America that I spoke to had said could happen)..because if that's the case I will try to find whichever way I can to terminate my lease as it's still less then two weeks old and I know there are certain laws in some states allowing you to terminate your lease within a certain amount of time....(I live in New York, anyone know anything about this???)

Sounds like a voltage issue supplying the headlights. The obvious has been eliminated when they replaced both headlights. Problem is dealers really have to go by the book given to them by HQ before they start fettling around off their own accord.

I feel like the dealers here in the states, or at least the managers of the service departments, aren't as knowledgeable as they are in other countries....I haven't spoken to the mechanics who actually worked on my car.

Now my concern is that if there is a voltage issue with the head light, will I come into other problems? Or would it be safe to assume that the issue is only going to effect the headlight....ugh I waited so long to actually take the step and get the car and now this, its not even a big deal, just frustrating.

And this may be really early to bring up but I've looked up my local lemon laws, and it states that the dealer basically gets 4 tries to rectify the problem......only thing it stated that makes me nervous is

"The manufacturer does not have a duty to make a refund or provide a replacement car if:
(1) the problem does not substantially impair the value of the car to the consumer, or
(2) the problem is a result of abuse, neglect or unauthorized alteration of the car."

http://www.carlemon.com/lemon/NY_law.html

I would assume that this problem would "substantially" impair the value on the car, being that it is one of the major design aspects of the vehicle???

Audi has told my dealer to let me come in and pick a headlight that I feel matches, and put it in my car........service manager was very confused because we have already done that, and the service manager swears that he trusts that the mechanic definitely did change the light. So they want me to come in anyway to make Audi happy, and the next step would be to have a rep from Audi come in and confirm that the issue does exist. Service manager said that Audi claimed if the headlight was changed it would be "impossible" for the issue to still be there????? NOT HAPPY

It sounds to me like Audi and the dealer are doing what they can. If you choosing the headlight of your choice doesn;t solve the issue, then someone from AoA will come and see the issue and hopefully suggest the next step in resolving the issue. Right?

If its a voltage thing, it should be testable with a meter - i.e. if its meant to be 12v coming out and theres only 10 then it might be a bit dimmer etc - comparsion with other cars should show if its a fault in the wiring or the light boxes - and then if it is you can get them to check if other bits are low too.

I've suggested the voltage idea to them before, I'll be more persistent on them with that though. As for a representative for AoA, I mentioned that and felt like it was brushed off by the service manager. I'll handle that situation at that time I suppose.

Just wanted to get in on this issue as i've noticed this with my 4 week old A5.... I hadn't noticed it at first, until the other day when I went out to it at night, unlocked the car (and the lights come on as unlocked) - as i walked closer to the car, I noticed a definate difference in the LED's.... The same side as yours - passenger side is bright 'blue/white' and the drivers side is slightly dimmer. I'm going to contact Audi about this monday and will let you know what I hear back from them asap.
Being in the UK, it will be interesting to see what the dealers here come up with!!!

From what someone else said in this thread-there should be an option in your mmi menu to change that.....(no first hand experiance) hit CAR-SETTINGS-Exterior Lighting-headlamp convertor

kaz; the MMI seeting to which you refer has no effect on the LEDs, it only converts the headlight angle when driving between different countries (i.e. UK to Europe) to compensate for driving on the wrong side of the road.

Cheers

Spoken to Audi yesterday afternoon, they have confirmed that the DRL's lights "should" be the same brightness and asked me to take the car to them during the week. I'm going to try to get it in to them on tuesday so will let you know the update when I hear from them.

Thanks Mulski for clearing that up.....I'll update as soon as I hear something from my dealer also, It's hard for me to drop my car off during the week, since I go to school 65 miles away from my house(dealer is 2 miles from my house) and also work 45miles away from home, so the earliest I see my car going in is maybe Friday morning :/

When they let you pick the headlights to be fitted to your car, im assuming they will be taken from a demo car they have? if so have a good look at them to make sure your happy with the brightnes AND colour, the fitting should only take about 1/2hr to 45mins with an alignment check. IF the lights look different again on your car then there will be an issue with your cars electrical system.
If this is the case then suggest to them the BCM1 module under the dash as thats where the lights are connected into.

Morski-Thank you so much for that information, I will deffinitly give the dealer a call in the morning, they have already changed the lights once so I'm going to assume/hope it's the BCM1 module. If it's not that, any idea then what else it would be?

I've just got back from the Audi dealer today - they are ordering me a new set of lights for the car as they agree they are different colours / brightnesses, and shouldn't be!
At least I haven't got to fight with them about it.... only problem is the earliest they can fit it in to replace them is 13th April !!
Still, it's not like it's something that's stopping the car from working, so can't complain too much I guess.
Hope you get yours sorted soon too.

Hi Guys,

I have the same problem but on an A4 B8. I'm from Australia and drivers side(right) is more purplish and passengers side(left) is more a white colour...

So what was the end result for you guys? Is it a normal behaviour or will they replace it? What is the problem, the headlights or something else? I haven't notified my dealer yet....

Cheers,
K.

I've now been to 3 different garages about my lights (and a seperate oil level issue), and have basically been told to get lost from all of them.

Audi UK have refused to replace / allow investigation into the difference in lights as they say it's a 'known issue' and the lights are 'allowed' to be different colours according to them.
They are different colours because of the amount of coating put on the LED's (to make them a strong white colour) rather than the slightly yellow tint they would have otherwise.... something like that anyway. I am more than fed up with Audi garages in the UK and have not bothered to carry on with the issue as they have said that if Audi UK have refused to replace anything then the garage themselves wont get any money back from the warranty, therefore not prepared to do anything about it.

Basically, Audi are a waste of time, so much for the 'customer being right' and as I said to the sales man at my local garage, if this was his car would he be happy about it, he refused to comment... but that said it all.

As you may have guessed, I've had the car now almost 5 months, and considering the amount of money spent, I am VERY disappointed in Audi customer service. Certainly wont be getting another one if this is anything to go by which is a shame, as I love the car itself.
