Default Beware - UK Extended Warranty

From the brochure
2-year Warranty Extension. Audi Warranty Extension, prolonging your 3-year/60,000-mile Audi warranty
to 5 years or 90,000 miles (whichever comes sooner). Comprehensive cover equivalent to the Audi warranty,
protecting you against unexpected repairs. Only available as a new car option. Transferable between owners

Acutally what this means is that you
HAVE TO ORDER THIS AS PART OF THE CAR SPEC - once your car is ordered (confirmed) you cannot add it

arrrrrgh

went to try to add it today and this is what I was told by Audi UK, asked the sales chap at the dealer a while back for prices and said I was interested - did he tell me about this, did he hell. Actually intended to buy it when I picked the car up ... YOU CANNOT DO THIS. I have absolutely no idea why not and cannot think of one ... maybe if you buy the warranty they build the car with better bits?!

ffs what's is the matter with these people?

If Audi can't employ dealers capable of understanding their complex options then either
*** Get better dealers
or
*** simplify it so that people with an IQ in single figures can understand it

I do c30K miles/year so I get a 2 year warranty.
That is the worst warranty of any similar manufacturer
Now they pull this stunt when I reluctantly decide to part with a paltry £1200 for a 3rd year warranty.

Totally pi**ed off ... yet again

Firstly check with your dealer as they may offer their own extended warranty, if they include a service dept. The Audi 2 year/90,000 miles warranty extension on the A5 Cab costs £1,230. My dealer offered me the same extended 2 year warranty (but limited 60,000 miles and the work would have to be carried out by them or one of their franchises dealerships) for £799! I managed to get it for £699 with a bit of haggling so bit their hand off as I average less than 10,000 miles a year.

fair point Chris, but in this instance I was trying to buy the Audi warranty for the "really dont worry about it" option except that it seems not to be possible.

Warning others who may be looking at these Audi extended warranties as much as anything.

continue to struggle with dealers who cant seem to understand the system

Gruffle,
I'd go back to your dealer and ask about options for extending the warranty after you've bought the car. I just extended mine from the 3yr/60k to 3yr/100k miles for £815, so it is possible. For me, it gives me another 10 months of warranty as I do around 28k miles/yr. I paid for this at the same time as my 3rd service, at 59k miles in mid Feb this year, so unless Audi have withdrawn this in the last 4 weeks or so, then should still be available.

The brochure my dealer showed me included lots of options depending on whether you'd already gone out of the original warranty or not, and the age of your car.

I think I'll be able to add a 4th and then 5th year (still limited to 100k miles though I think) for around the £1230/yr others are quoting.

If you let the car go out of warranty and then buy another year, then it's more expensive - around £1600 I think (but don't quote me!). Limit is still 100k miles/5 yrs old though (I think).

I remembered £1500 or so when I enquired what the last A4 warranty ran out, thought the extended warranty was a fair deal and preferable to 3rd party one.

really was to point out to others considering it... that you cannot add whe n you pick up the car, must be specified as option when ordering.

and another grump at useless dealers (no suprise there then )

Almost all manufacturer warranties (even the 1st three years) are actually underwriiten by insurance companies to limit the liability on the manufacturer itself. Think Toyota Prius and the brakes issue and you can see why they do it.

The warranty that is ordered with the car will be underwritten by Audi AG and will place no liability for future costs on Audi UK's extended warranty insurer. Audi UK is a separate legal entity to its German organisation.

There, Simples!

Spot on - it is Audi AG not Audi UK, only bit of warranty that is Audi UK is 3rd year.

Ah - but Simples here expected the dealer to tell him this when he enquired about it a month ago before it went confirmed and not forget to get back to me until too late so that I find out that it could NOT be added when the car was picked up.

Simples going to have to really have to learn not to expect anything worthwhile from a dealer.

Forum is much better bet
