Yep I had the problem last month, my S3 was taken - becoming very common place.
I now keep my spare keys in a safe bolted to a concrete floor. |

harsh!
does this imply the alarm/immobiliser, despite being thatcham 1 approved isnt very good? I mean I know the most clever crook will always find a way around it but surely it shouldnt mean you need to invest in other forms of security? Andy |

I think the idea is they mug you or steal the keys since most new cars are basically unstartable without them or lots of re-wiring - due to factory immobiliser. I know there was something in the news when that white stuff (not coke) was everywhere in january - about people leaving the cars running and going back inside whilst things warmed up.

Yeah, I heard that too... I even did it myself (not the stealing, but warming up the car!) so will pay attention.. Kind of need a "BlackJack" setup which I used to have on my Integra Type-R. If your in the car and its running you have to enter a combination on the alarm buttons, otherwise after 15 seconds the alarm kills the engine and its unstartable without a code. If you enter the code, your good to go, but if a door is opened and closed then you have to re-enter the code to keep going, other wise the engine is killed again after X amount of seconds.. obviously along the lines of someone ripping you out your car say at traffic lights and jumping in... I do remember trying to enter that code once though, getting it wrong and my car cut out on the roundabout.. It was not cool. ![]() guess you just need to keep your wits about you! A.
