Default going in for number 2

Ive had my car at the dealer 3 times already. The first two were to confirm that I had a problem. The third resulted in the removal of the transmission, and most clutch components replaced, including new TSB parts from Germany. Issue wasn't resolved. Car is at dealer as of today. I will tell them to replace the master clutch cylinder, since Tom S seems to have had good results. I've contacted Audi customer care, they know whats going on. I have already mentioned the trade assist that kceesar has gone through. Kceesar, can you give me more info, because I'm pretty sure, this will end the way yours did. I have an 08 S5, it has 30,500 miles on it, and the problem with the clutch has been on/ off since week 1. I love my car, I just want it fixed, but have little confidence in Audi at this point.

Interesting news...

Got a call from my dealer telling me that there is an "update" for my clutch issues. They have received instructions from Audi to install a "boatload" of new parts, and the dealer has ordered them, but some are likely to be backordered. They will call to schedule the appointment when all the parts are in hand.

This is interesting because they called me out of the blue. This may be the engineering fix we are all looking for. I will post more when I know more.

Do you know what parts are being replaced by any chance?

Thanks Man

also so you know the transmission needs to be dropped to fix the issues so prepare to leave your car for 2-3 days.

Default Good thread on AudiWorld

There is a good thread on this topic on AudiWorld. Google the TSB number. Several members are reporting that their S5's are cured.

Hi All,

Just another guy with the same issue and several unsuccessful 'fixes'...

I have informed my local AUDI dealer about the TSB you mention, but it seems that has not showed up yet in EU.

I checked on the Greek ERWIN and it is true, it does not show up.

Could somebody that has access to the data, advice the full text of the TSB, or a way to get a copy ? I tried loging on to the States ERWIN, but it sends me back to the local site.

Thanks in advance.

Well.. Just an update...

I dont know if it is just AUDI Greece, or this is a global issue ! They now claim that the car is out of warranty and that I have to pay for the 'fix'. Although I explained several times that the previous 'fixes' were under warranty but didnt work, they instist they contacted the factory and all, but the reply remains the same.

It is a pitty giving the car away, due to not so smart customer-care...

Default Tomorrow...

I get my baby back from the dealer tomorrow. I am hopeful, but we will see what we will see.

I'll post news, if anyone is interested.

Yes please, let us know what you have learnt.

Would you mind asking them if this problem affects a certain VIN range and/or place of manufacture to dispel or confirm that myth?

I am worried about a lurking latent design defect that may develop after the warranty period expires, which could then leave the owner to foot the bill.

My clutch problem appears to be a failing pilot bearing as evidenced by the rough feel at high revs when letting the clutch out (MY2008 s5). Gets worse when warm, felt it slightly on day one. Its time to make a claim.

Default So far, so good...

I put about 25 miles on my 2010 S5 since getting it back last night, and so far the clutch seems to be fully healed. I don't want to jinx it, but so far it feels just like the clutch in my 2003 A6-2.7T, which was great and trouble-free to over 125k mi, when I traded it in on the S5. Seems smooth and snappy, and the shifting overall seems smoother, like maybe the clutch wasn't fully disengaging consistently before.

Gone also is the high-frequency buzz that I used to get as the release bearing contacted the clutch at high rpm's for an upshift. Seems just like it should...so far.

As far as I know, this problem has been afflicting all 6MT S5's since 2008, but according to Audi, mine was the first 2010 S5 with this complaint. The first round of repair was just changing out parts in the hope that the issue was quality, but this last round was new parts of different design...seems the engineers found the problem.

I love my S5, and it is a joy to drive. My confidence in Audi Engineering is a little shaken, though. Hopefully the bad memories will fade with each trouble-free mile.

I don't know if I should post this or not.... but the AW thread is active again as several of us who had the TSB repair done are experiencing issues again.
Hope you have better luck.

Not to bust anyones bubbles here, but I've had this issue on my 2010 S5 as well. After the 4th repair, even the lead tech said they could not do anything for me and Audi would have to step in and figure it out. Long story short, Audi has agreed to replace my vehicle with only 4K miles with a new one and rather than having to deal with the clutch issues, I asked for an automatic and they didn't charge me for it. Now for the wait....3-5 month wait. =(

Thanks, I figured US, Audi doesn't want it to be filed as a Lemon.

OK thanks, I thought they might have agreed to the replacement without using the Lemon law.

They didn't really even fight it. Audi really wants to take care of their customers. I'm not sure what the law is in Canada, but we are really lucky that CA has a lemon law. Other than having to bring my car in multiple times and every time being at least 3~4 days, the process was very painless. I just hope people have better success than I did. The mornings, even a couple hours after you start driving the car, there are no issues. After it gets warm/hot, it starts to act up and really throws off my shifting when I am trying to shifting quickly.

There is no cost difference with the automatic as the gas guzzler tax that is only charged on the manual offsets it.

I am also in Southern California and contacted my Lemon Law attorney a few months ago. I used my attorney in 1991 on my Acura Legend. Where in Southern California are you and what is your attorney's name? I have long suspected that I will be going down this same path again.

Default Lemon Law

Ive had my transmission dropped twice so far. The car hasn't acted up in months, but I suspect that is because of the warm weather. I'm anticipating it sticking once again when the weather gets cold. I've been dealing with this problem since I first took delivery in 08. I will have around 35,000 miles by the time the fall comes around. Do I have any options at that point? I live in NY. The dealer kept telling me to bring it in, new TSB, blah blah. I really do not want to keep this car if the clutch acts up again. I would appreciate any advice.

Mikequattro, mine was actually the total opposite. It happens when my car is hot and then it starts to stick. Currently the stickiness isn't there as often, but more like squeaky pedal now. You press down on it and it makes a rough sound and then when you lift the pedal back up...same thing...horrible for being a MY2010 and barely having a few hundred miles and acting up. Not sure about your lemon laws in NYC, but I'd look into it if they dropped your transmission twice already.

Well I'm sorry to say that my clutch has begun to stick on return once again. I'm bringing it in on Monday. I've contacted audi of America, and they're looking into my options as far as trade assist, and whatever else may be available. Does anyone know how helpful a trade assist actually is? Thanks

My clutch has begun to stick on return, too. Still very infrequent, but I think this might be it for me...

Sad, sad, sad...
