There is a middle road which has been discussed before....use the dealer but supply your own oil. Just discuss it with them first, after you have got an itemised, written or emailed quote.
I don't know what's the point where I am from? That's stupid cliche. You know the stuff or You don't, You like cars and working on them, or You don't. There are many americans which do oil change themselves too.

I have Q5 yet, but I did the oil change myself even during warranty and let the Audi servis check other stuff (diagnostic etc.), this costs me around 70 pounds and didn't avoid warranty, and I have had a stamp in service book too.
When you count money for whole service, it's more than You can get as goodwill. Normally I would spend 3000 pounds more for all services together, I have saved them, when no goodwill is neccesary, or I would spend them if it would be necessary. You did spend them even if You don't need any goodwill. That's my point of view.

I have bad experience with Audi service too, they did change 6 liters (it was on the bill) in my S5, although there is 8,8 l in engine, so they left 2,8 of old oil in the engine !!! That was enough for me.

Every country is different mr99, and in the UK you would not retain warranty or goodwill if you did the oil services yourself and then expected the dealer to do the rest and "stamp the book" regardless of marque. However if you did interim oil and filter changes from choice (as you rightly said many Americans are used to changing oil every 5k miles) between the dealer services as long as you used the right filters I am sure they wouldn't notice.
If i owned a car on a pcp in the UK I would try to reduce the dealer cost by providing the oil which is typically marked up 500% over retail by the dealer, but I wouldn't risk back charges by going out of dealership or going diy.

And where I was coming from is that if I had a car which is out of warranty, I wouldn't pay outrageous dealer service prices for what is often a piss poor job, either.

Everyone's circumstance is different.

Sober since 1st January 2016......unfortunately it is now clear to me how fucked up our world is. It's enough to turn a man to drink.....

Had the service done, came to 242.62.

Forgot that MK was the dealership that had the roof collapse on it, so they had a temporary set-up some way away. Thankfully they gave me a free taxi into the centre so I could do some shopping while I waited.

Good price (relatively...) and good service. Oh and they didn't wash it as requested
