I've actually managed to find out - I think!

Traking your New Audi from Germany

It's on one of two ships, I think it's on TIGER, Callsign: 9HA2271, due to hit the UK Southampton port on the 19th April.
The other ship is FAUST, Callsign SLKQ but gets into the Southampton port on the 21st.

Hopefully it hits the UK on the 19th, and possibly gets to my dealership on Monday/Tuesday as I'm carless from Tuesday onwards !

Good news! Have you thought about your route back? I decided to avoid the motorways in order to keep my speed down and reduce the risk of 'stuff' hitting the paintwork prior to having the protection done. The journey was obviously twice as long but that meant twice as much time to enjoy the car!

Don't forget to take your camera to the dealer!

Might just be coincidence but all of my stone chips to either paint or glass have occurred on non-motorway roads. Although motorways are a bit faster, they also tend to be cleaner. In reality it can happen anywhere I suppose

Only 'cos I find the opposite, driving in England, which is why I didn't use the motorways. I read somewhere that the M4 (my nearest) is the busiest road in the UK and I wouldn't call it 'cleaner' than our A-roads.

BTW I think Scotland is still part of Britain isn't it?

I'm with AB on this, my experience has always been chipped windscreens on A rather than M roads.

It sure is

What I was getting at was my damage has occurred in various locations across the UK but generally not motorways, but like I say, it might just be coincidence.

One things for sure, it's a complete bummer wherever it happens

Well in that case sirshorty should have ignored my advice and will be taking the M1, M25, M3 and M27 all the way home. I expect his post on here at around 4pm after he's taken 30 mins to carefully drive his new S5 into his garage (ask me how I know...)

It's here !!!!!

Collected this morning from Milton Keynes Audi. Fantastic service and can't wait to have the detail done tomorrow and Monday so I can have a proper drive !

I asked them not to clean the car, so they've just removed the protecting wrapping and left it as it was. There was some sticky residue still on the car, as well as it looking pretty mucky in general, but that was as I expected it.
On my arrival the car was parked outside, but then they moved it into the collection area to show me around the car / controls, as they had quite a few new cars going out today.

Loved testing the Adaptive Cruise Control and the Active Lane Assist on the way home. Although slightly annoying when people overtake then pull in front of you and ACC brakes, even though they're accelerating away from you still.
No chance to really push the car and test the sport diff and I still need a once around to check all of my added features are there. Once the detail is done and after the first 1,000 miles then I can start really pushing it to see where the limits are.
I think I may also win for the best fuel economy on an S5? 32.8mpg on my 140 mile trip back home.

Were you following me @Dippy? That was my exact route! + a quick stop off at the services to refuel (Burger King), followed by thoroughly washing my hands to make sure no grease got into the car!

It wasn't hard to guess!

I noticed that my monsoon grey car looks different under various light, and I think its that way with the daytona too. In some photos ours look the same (except that you have 2 doors missing ) but I know from seeing the two colours side-by-side that daytona is quite a bit darker than monsoon.

I have started modding mine - but only VCDS changes: I have enabled the lap timer/oil temp display and the horn sound on locking.

Thanks all
Never thought I'd own a car like this - had a smile on my face all day!

A few questions - hopefully I can get some quick and easy answers as I'm sure if I searched around enough I could find the answers. Sorry for being lazy

1. I seem to have storage nets on the back of the seats. I didn't spec the storage pack. Is this standard?
2. How do I check that damper control is there?
3. In the AMI settings I have dynamic steering options, but didn’t spec this. Have I been given a freebie, or is there 2 different versions of dynamic steering? It definitely firms up when getting quicker, and is butter in my fingers when parking up.
4. How do I check the sports diff is there. I think @Dippy posted a pic of a lump of metal under the car somewhere?

The dealer asked what AMI cable I needed whilst there today and gave me the lightning connector, although checking over the configurator it does say I should have 2 cables. So i'll be emailing them to see if I can get a USB AMI cable as well.

Thanks

1: The storage nets are usually part of the two storage packs along with cargo net, cubby net, lockable glove box, under seat storage bins and shopping hangers.
2: I can feel the difference in damper settings, especially between comfort and dynamic. I don't know of another way of knowing easily.
3: Settings for comfort auto and dynamic are available for non-dynamic steering, but it just changes the weight of the steering. I don't have dynamic steering so don't know how that differs, but think it alters the steering ratio?
4: Cant help with the sports diff I'm afraid.

You should get the USB cable and iPod with your AMI.

Enjoy!

Dan.

I need to check my car now. I have the nets on the back of the front seats but didn't pay for the storage pack. I now need to check if I have any of the other components of the storage pack (compartment under front seats, drink holder in rear arm rest, lockable glove box, tie down straps and 12v socket in the boot) none of which I've had any need for so far.

Well I paid for the storage pack and I thought that the nets were part of that! Sounds like I needn't have paid the £180 after all? However I did already note an inconsistency: I have the compartment under the passenger seat (not sure what I could use if for though), and was under the impression that since I have the convenience option (seat/mirror memory) there wouldn't be one under the driver seat. But there is. I'd like to know how many of the items on that list do come on cars without the storage package.

4. How do I check the sports diff is there. I think @Dippy posted a pic of a lump of metal under the car somewhere?

5. The dealer asked what AMI cable I needed whilst there today and gave me the lightning connector, although checking over the configurator it does say I should have 2 cables. So i'll be emailing them to see if I can get a USB AMI cable as well.
2) As Dan stated, you should be able to easily feel the damper control. Start out in comfort and change to dynamic as you drive. The sensation of the suspension firming up should be obvious.

3) Check again - in the MMI with dynamic steering you should see "DYNAMIC STEERING" with the options. On a car without I think it is just "STEERING", and as Dan stated you can still select the ADS options for it. Dynamic steering does change the ratio.

4) Yes, you can see the mechatronics of the unit by look under the rear of the car, just to right of centre. I think it is a mistake by Audi not to have a cover for this as it is vulnerable. Also you should have seen "SPORTS DIFFERENTIAL" as an option in MMI along with the damper control.

5) Its is a shame you didn't see my post on this subject. I had not realised that I was due a free cable until my salesman told me during my 'pre-inspection'. Then people told me that they had a dual pack for a phone and with USB. My salesman then confirmed that yes they do those dual packs as well as just phone packs. So I asked for a dual pack with lightning and USB cables, which is what I got. If you just ask for a lightning cable then that's all you get.

Yeah, I forgot the drink holder in the rear armrest and the 12v socket in the boot. Shows how much I've used them! Nice to know they're there though!
Audi Bairn likes this.

Yes, I was expecting not to have the bin under the drivers seat due to the convenience module, but it's there!
The seat back nets might come with the S5 anyway? But the other stuff should only be present if the storage pack 1 & 2 are ordered (and you can't have one without the other, so why they split it into two options is anyone's guess?!).

Pretty sure I have the 12v in the boot (I'll go check later) but I definitely have the rear cup holders in the armrest.

I have the fixings for the storage net in the boot, could really do with the net back again actually since It's useful for stopping things side around in the boot!

Cheers for the tips - I'll check my car out tonight / tomorrow once the detail has been finished.

Are you using either? I tried to put my telescopic umbrella in it but it was too long. I guess I could buy a shorter one, but it fits in the door tray anyway.

I'm starting to think that I was robbed of £180 here. At least it helps me feel less guilty about taking the £2K discount for Audi finance but cancelling within 14 days.

Day 1 of detailing done and It's looking so much better already!
Ben from Pro Reflect has done a brilliant job so far, very friendly guy & easy to talk to.

Took a couple of quick snaps after he left to show the paint off in it's true glory!

Photo of what I think is the sports diff.

Also noticed that the Sub seems to be built into the parcel shelf / top of the boot?
I had always thought it was in the spare wheel well, like the sportback, or under the passenger seat?

I also seem to have the under seat passenger storage, even though I didn't spec the storage pack. However I don't have a lockable glove box, cargo net or power in the boot.
That said, the under seat storage is TINY. What are you meant to put in there??

Lastly - It does just say 'steering' in the MMI. So like you said, this shows I don't have adaptive steering - but still good to know that it is partially adaptive even without speccing the option!

2 things Ben spotted today when detailing the car - not sure if I should mention these to the Audi dealership at all?

1. There's a mark on the rear just above the exhaust where it's been scuffed enough to take the paint off, right back to the plastic trim.
2. There's a strange & feint line on one of the rotors that Ben tried to remove but doesn't seem to be shifting.

Both they could argue could have happened after the car left the dealership. The mark is strange as it's on a part of the car that's not sticking out far - so it's not as if I've bumped into something - which I definitely haven't!

Should I say anything?

Doubt it's worth getting them to repair the small scuff mark as I imagine the dealership has the potential to cause more problems / marks etc.. when fixing it. It's definitely not noticeable unless you were looking for it.

Not sure about the alloy mark. If wash/clay/polish/ wax can't shift it, I would imagine it's a defect. If you can live with it, then I would probably try and forget about it!

As for the paint damage, did your detailer have any recommendations for smart repairs near you? If yes, get them to give you a quote and politely ask whether Audi would mine picking up the tab, as you're, along with the detailer, fairly sure it wasn't there before you drove it. Can only ask!

Good luck!
