New to Me 2013 Cab

Hi,
I'm Bruce from Franklin, TN. I just bought a Moonlight Blue Metallic 2013 A5 cabriolet w/20,000 miles on it. Does every model have the wind deflector? Because ours seems to be missing, Also, I'm not sure which model of A5 I have. How do you tell? I know it doesn't have an auto dimming rear mirror, but it DOES have power driver and passenger seats. So far the wife & I love the car. My only complaint is it doesn't have navigation & a back up cam. Hers is her hair gets messed up.

First photo, just got home from the dealership. Okay, so drag & drop feature didn't work. Apparently I need a higher post count. Anyway, It's a 2.0T motor and automatic transmission. Need to go double check but I think it's a quattro version?

Welcome aboard, Bruce. I can't help with most of your questions, but I can at least get you started in establishing what's what. You ought to have the user manual, which should have a label in it that provides a list of option codes. That, or the same label is tucked away somewhere in the trunk. If you then search the web for "vag option codes", that should turn up a comprehensive list with explanations of what each of the codes mean.
I have a suspicion that the wind deflector is available as a cost option. Check with an Audi dealer about price, or hit up eBay - I just had a quick look and there's several listed there.

Thank you both for the welcome. I'll check the owner's manual to see if it has the codes in it. Side effect of buying a new car: it forced me to finish a project I'd successfully put off for 3 years. I had to find a way to store 3 kayaks that were sitting on the floor on a rack I made out of pvc pipe. Now they're all hung up over the garage door and out of the way. So the car fits inside out of the elements.

I posted this in another post you made earlier. I didn't notice this second identical post until after I responded to the first one. Here it is again:

Welcome to the forum, Bruce!

Looking at the 2013 A5 US brochure, it sounds like your A5 Cab is the Premium trim level. There were three trim levels, Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige.

Premium does not get the auto dimming exterior side mirrors and interior rear view mirror. It does not even get the Parking System with Rear View Camera not even as an option. The Premium Plus Trim Level gets the auto dimming mirrors as standard and the NAV+ Parking System with Rear View Camera as an option under the Audi MMI Navigation Package.

According to the 2013 Audi A5 Media Kit, the wind deflector came standard with every Cabriolet model. Sad to learn that yours didn't come with the A5 Cab you just purchased.

For more information about your model, you can download a copy of the 2013 Audi A5 brochure here: http://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/...%20A5_2013.pdf

If you are missing the Owners Manual, you can download an electronic copy of its manual from this website: https://ownersmanuals2.com/audi/a5-c...s-manual-71926

Hi plat, thanks again for the info. I wasn't sure which forum to start the thread in. I guess the mods can nuke whichever one is out of place, or move and merge to the proper place. I'm easy to get along with.

I have another question- will leaving the lights in the Auto position cause the battery to drain? My battery is dead this evening. I've turned the lights and all off for now and have the charger on it. They had to charge it up when we took ownership too, but I've put 120 miles on it over the weekend. Now, I had ignition on while I was setting the garage opener last nightand a few other things, so I may have killed it. Just want to make sure the light switch set to auto doesn't somehow keep the lights on when I go inside.

No, leaving the light switch on AUTO won't kill the battery. I leave mine on AUTO all the time. I suspect that your battery is still original and is almost dead. Batteries usually last 4 to 7 years. Your car is a 2013 model so 4 years is just about where batteries start to go. I suggest that you get the battery stress tested by your local battery place. If it turns out that it is still OK, there must be something else that is causing it to drain.

I also suspect the battery is going bad. It's low miles car and I know that it sat at least a month at the dealer before we found it, so it's sat a lot of it's life with no use and probably no charging. We'll know after I charge it. But a trip to have it tested is certainly in order. We have local shop called Eurofix right down the road from me. Specialize in Audi, BMW, Mercedes repairs. I might just take it there and introduce myself.

One thing that WILL kill an aging battery is stop/start. Get it either coded out altogether, or coded to default off.

JW, for some reason, B8/8.5 A5's and S5's sold in the US and Canada never had Start/Stop available from the factory. It would have been nice to have it if it defaults to off and the user just turns it on when it is needed. We do not even have the "A with the circular arrow" button in the console. I can see its benefits and disadvantages. I am happy that my S5 does not have it but wish it had it during the times when I am stuck in stop/go traffic such as ridiculously long border line-ups.

Thanks, plat, I didn't know that. Despite the apparent advantages, the "feature" really does hammer the battery pretty hard. Okay with a new battery, but real tough for an aging unit.

I believe the battery used in cars with Start/Stop are AGM types that are built for that sort of demanding application. I am more concerned about wearing out the starter motor. It might be built to withstand that much use but that's still a lot of start-ups during the span of a short time. I am impressed by the technology though. Before buying my S5, I test drove a BMW 435iX with Auto Start-Stop. The start-ups were so smooth and un-noticeable. Well, maybe a slight shake but nearly seamless and almost instantaneous. I do not know how good it will be after putting in several thousand miles on such a vehicle equipped with Start-Stop. I have read that the start-ups on some older Audi's are not as quick and seamless as they used to be when they were new. Some folks here in North America hate it because they are not used to it. They want response and power on demand in a split second from a dead stop. A lot of owners here have heavy lead foots and think they are on a drag race every time they drive along city streets. Start-Stop tech just kills their groove!

Well good news. The dealer has decided to replace the battery at no cost. So I've the car on charge in the driveway right now and around lunch time Mrs. B will take it up there and have it replaced. I'm still going to take it to the Euro specialists to have them set the codes. Don't want to frag a new battery.
Next up will be a nice wash and wax and then I'll try to get some decent photos of her. The car, not Mrs. B
