After reading through loads of threads I finally took the plunge and did the coding to enable Audi Drive Select on mine and my mates car. Both being 3.0 TDI's with MMI 2G.

From what I've read all V6 engines have servotronic steering.

This is the coding I used (taken from various other threads):

*Note: Bytes go left to right and Bits go right to left (Both starting at 0)*

09 Central Elec - Long Coding Helper

Byte 7, Bit 5 Change 0 to 1 (tells car ADS is installed, Charisma fault generated)

Byte 8, Bit 2 Change 0 to 1 (Enables engine setting in MMI)

Byte 8, Bit 3 Change 0 to 1 (Enables suspension setting in MMI [I didn't do this as my suspension isn't adjustable])

Byte 8, Bit 4 Change 0 to 1 (Enables steering [servotronic] setting in MMI)

Byte 8, Bit 5 Change 0 to 1 (Enables sports diff setting in MMI [I didn't do this as I don't have the sport diff])

Byte 17, Bit 7 Change 0 to 1 (Enables MMI display)

----------------------------------------------------------------

09 Central Electronic

16 Security Access

Type in code in pop up (for me it was 20113)

Click "Do It!"

----------------------------------------------------------------

09 Central Electronic

10 Adaptation

Channels 63, 64, 65, 66

Change Value to 4 for each channel (1 = Comfort, 2 = Auto (default), 3 = Dynamic, 4 = Individual)

Click Test and then Save for each channel

Ensure setting of 4 for all channels again

----------------------------------------------------------------

In MMI hidden menu go to Diag settings, Car menus maske, check 'Charisma' box and go down to Accept changes (this was already ticked on mine and my mates car). Whilst still in the hidden menu go to Diag settings, APK 0x01, 0x0B, 0x0C, check 'Charisma' box and go down to Accept changes.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I now have an 'Audi drive select - individual' option within the MMI and I am able to adjust the engine and steering.

Just a quick one, on my mates car when adjusting one of the settings within the MMI he gets the following 3 options: Comfort, Auto and Dynamic on mine I get: Comfort, Dynamic and Sport. Any ideas why mine is different?

I thought the 4 settings were Comfort, Auto (default), Dynamic and Individual ?

What is the sport setting ?

Hmm, right i now have this selectable through the MMI but i dont feel as though selecting the options is doing anything. Before i started this vagcom mod i had ultra stiff steering once moving which was fantastic. Somehow i have turned this off and now have bog standard steering feel and the selection through mmi has no effect whatsoever :(
How can i get my stiff steering back?

I think I know the answer to this question. But might as well ask it.

Is there any point in doing this to a 2.0L TDI quattro? Have checked my coding sticker and have "1N1 - Power steering".

Will it do anything?

Just did this mod.... Works really well.

I like that you can switch between modes as your driving for instant switching of driving styles. The difference between comfort and dynamic is huge. Great that I can stick it all in comfort mode for when the wife is borrowing the car :)

Tempted into retro fitting the switch if its easy.

Buttons fitted this morning, it took about 25 minutes, simple fit that cost me about ÂŁ70. The buttons came from eBay.de and the loom from kufatec.

1N3 is the code for servotronic steering.

Having it set to dynamic mode is fun but it certainly burns more diesel. I am averaging about 29mpg with this on.

Have you got front parking sensors? If not then this is the part you need - 8K2 959 674 F

I got mine by asking a seller if he'd take an offer and end early, as a result I don't have a link to the auction for you to see.

The part above is the one I have, it may be worth emailing this seller - http://bit.ly/166ZeCU to see if he has the left hand buttons. Part number above. Not sure why a German seller would have RH drive pictures up.

Sorry, I am getting somewhat confused here.

I do have front parking sensors, but I am not sure what that has to do with it. I don't want an ESP/parking switch. I just want the ADS switch to fit to the left of my current ESP/parking switch. The fitting guide says to do this you need the switch for LHD, yet the picture on the Ebay auctions hows the switch for the right side of the console.

"You can not reuse your ESP switch as they are shaped differently for left and right. There is the however part. If you want to save some money, simply order the ADS switch for the opposite market. So if you have a RHD car order the LHD switch and if you have a LHD car order the RHD switch. This will allow you to install the switch in the current unused mounting section and retain your ESP switch."

Did you not do it this way ?

Yes I installed on the left of the dash in the blank.

I believe the correct place for the ads buttons in a right hand car is on the right hand side of the dash meaning all of the current buttons get moved over.

I fitted mine on the left with the part number above.

The link shows the right hand buttons for a right hand drive car. I don't know why.

You could keep watching eBay.de to see if one is put on or alternatively email that seller above (with the rhd picture) to see if he can supply left hand drive adc buttons.

Either way your looking for the left hand buttons with the part number in my post above.

Ok, that restores some sanity to my understanding of it... cheers :)

For anyone like me with the mechanical skills of an arthritic gibbon, I asked HazzyDayz how much they would charge to do this... The price: ÂŁ120 plus VAT.

Which didn't sound too bad to me.

#32 ·
Good money for them there! I reckon I could do it in half an hour now I've done it once and know where everything routes and unclips.

I'll do it for anyone that fancies driving to Rossendale, in exchange for a box of Carlsberg Export!

Well the parts would cost me a minimum of around ÂŁ80-ÂŁ90, so an extra ÂŁ40 for the hassle of getting the job done properly rather than making a hash of it myself is OK. Still thinking about it though cos the mmi option is not too bad.

I have the same model so basically all it is going to affect is steering and engine. The steering can be stiffened up substantially by selecting "dynamic" and makes steering much more enjoyable.

The engine settings affect throttle response. In comfort mode acceleration is steady and even, revs are limited. In dynamic mode, the response to pressing the throttle pedal is instant making acceleration much faster. It uses more fuel because you are driving much more aggressively and at much higher revs. I would think that the difference between comfort and dynamic over 0-60 is at least 1 second, but not timed it.

It does not effect my remap at all that I can tell.

#37 ·
Thanks Jason,

I couldnt get my head around how Dynamic could increase the throttle responce as surely thats what the remap did anyway?

Are you saying it increases it further?

So im guessing efficency mode is good for those long journeys? or let me guess nobody has tested it? :)

Ill test it out, what screen do you have when you load it up?

Also off subject what hidden menu screen do you have?

any pictures of either?

The best thing is to just try it out and see what you think. Its more like adding another layer over your remap. Comfort will make driving relaxed and steady, dynamic opens things up to their full potential. I feel as though remap+dynamic is more responsive than just the remap on its own was.

The first post in this thread is for 2G, so just follow that and you should be good

Just done this mod but i cant enjoy it, i pulled out my road revved a little and something went. the car made an awful tapping noise and now its there it sounds inside the engine and is rev related.. have i just blown something? any ideas?

Anyone near Bristol can look?

Really, sounds strange, not read about this mod ever causing a problem for anyone, could be a co-incidence. Hopefully someone near by who can help you out.
