VAG-COM problem with S5 - 'No response from controller'

Howdy. I just tried to hook up my S5 Cab to VAG-COM using a genuine cable, and after following a quick start guide posted on here, I keep getting 'No response from controller' errors when I try to do the following:

On main screen click Select button under 'Select Control Module'
Select 'Electronics 1' tab
Click '07-Control Head' button
Error message pops up.

I've set up and tested the cable in the Program Options window, and it all tests out OK. Since the cable is connected via USB, I've selected the USB radio button in the Select Port panel.

Has anyone run into this problem before? I've Google'd this error and tried the workarounds that people have posted to no avail. I've also followed the FAQ section on the Ross-Tech website, but that didn't help either.

I'm running Windows 7 x64 on a MacBook Pro (running in battery mode).

Any help gratefully received

Yep I installed the driver and it does show up in device manager. Running the hardware test within the VCDS application also works fine.

Might seem silly but do you have the ignition on? You can perform a lot of functions with it off.

Use this link http://www.audienthusiasts.com/VagCom.html

I have a 2010 and just did mine Friday. The MMI 2G units use the 07 control head selection. 3G is accessed diferently.

The tricky part is accessing the hiden menu. Its a little tricky pressing and holding the car and setup button at the same time. It took me a few tries before I got in.

you have to press "Setup" first, immediately followed by pressing "Car"
now you hold them down together.

Your car has no 07-control head, that's why you can't reach it.

Try 5F, that is what you're looking for.

Thanks for the replies. in the end it turned out that I was being an idiot and trying to access a control module that wasn't present as C99 suggested.

I've now got everything working and have applied the codings that I wanted.
