Under seat storage on S-Line seats.

In my ongoing quest to neatly hide things away and have a clean cabin, I'm planning to add the under seat storage bins to both front seats.

I've seen various threads on here and elsewhere that suggest it's a reasonably doable mod, and the parts won't break the bank.

However, I've also seen various speculation about there being different versions of the parts for the sports seats, and whether the standard parts will or wont fit, without seeing a definitive answer. Plus, I have S-Line seats which I beleive are different again?

Are there any gotchas here or are all the parts relatively interchangeable? Plus, if I get the parts from the Audi dealer (who presumably will get them exactly correct) how much of a premium am I likely to pay? Price to buy online seems to be circa ÂŁ50 a side.

PN for the boxes is 8K0 881 601B (left) and 8K0 881 602B (right) and they are quoted by Audi at €46.86 inc.. Given that Audi seem to apply the same exchange rate to € as $, i.e. 1:1, then they should be just under £100 for both sides.

You'll need to quote a suffix for the relevant interior colour. These are:
4PK = black. J50 = light grey. Y22 = linen beige. M90 = stone blue. Z62 = star silver. K38 = cardomom beige. Z99 = cinnamon brown.

You'll also need:
Hexagon socket-head bolt - N 907 371 04 x8 @ 37p each
Speed nut - N 900 880 03 X8 @53p each

You'll obviously need to check these numbers and prices at the dealer but they should be OK.

Hope it's helpful.

David.

Thank you once again. ÂŁ100 all in is comparable to third party so once again I'll get it from the dealer. Even if it's a few quid more the peace of mind around getting the right part, plus I can pick it up locally, is worth a small premium.

I know, but all I'd be looking to put in there is stuff like glasses case, MF cloths, bits and pieces like that. I know it's a bit OCD of me, but I hate seeing stuff sticking out of the door pockets!

Had a reply from the local dealer, ÂŁ102 inc VAT for both sides, which is pretty reasonable. 7-10 days for delivery though as they are coming from the Fatherland.

I'll probably pop over and order them at the weekend.

I've fitted one of these, I actually bought both but decided not to do the passenger seat so that there was space to slip a laptop or case out of sight under the seat.

I bought them from the dealer, don't have the part number to hand but they were the same for both sides. Also you only need 4 each of the nuts and bolts for both sides, there are 2 fixing points under each seat.

I managed without unbolting the seat (it was awkward), but the friend I sold the other box to said he had to tilt the seat back (which was easy).

Do they fit on full (not just S-line lumber) movement electric front seats?

My dealer said there was a different part code for electric and manual seats, although websites I've seen say they are interchangeable.

The codes I sent him were as follows, which he said was for electric seats.

4 x N 907 371 05 - Screws (2 per side)
4 x N 900 880 03 - Speed Nuts (2 per side)
2 x 8K0 882 601 C xxx - Storage Bins (1 Per side )

Picked up the parts this evening and rushed home to fit them!

Got the drivers seat off without too much trouble, although those plastic clips are a sod to get off intact (and my car has a single plastic clip on the back).

Took out the first box and could immediately see that they are indeed different left and right on the manual seats, and the reason is obvious once you see them. They need to leave space for the handles under the seat that are used to slide it forwards and back, and these are on opposite sides on each seat. The box is clearly marked L for left.

You also quite clearly couldn't use electric seat boxes on a manual (as some websites suggest). I imagine you could use these on an electric, but you'd be nuts too as the upshot of those handles is that these boxes are even smaller than those on the electric seats! Here's a shot of the open drawer with an apple in it for scale.

This box though was for the left side and it was the drivers seat I had unbolted, so I opened the other box....

Yes, Audi managed to send me two left boxes! So tomorrow I'll have to go back to them and ask for the correct part, which will presumably take another week to arrive from Germany

Yes, but how do we know that isn't a huge apple? :2thumbsup:

Dealer has been very cool about this. Apologised for not checking the parts before I picked them up and immediately put in the order for the correct one without any fuss or quibble.

Sadly, it once again needs to come from Germany, so it'll be another week before I can store my lunch under the drivers seat :)

Is an apple all you can afford after all these retrofits?

Decided to fit the passenger side box today, and my wasn't that fun! Took off the three plastic covers and undid three of the seat bolts, but when I got to the last one (front near the door), the torx driver instantly spun within the bolt. Tried again more carefully with a bit more pressure, same result. Looking more closely, some friend of society appears to have stripped this one at some time in the past. God know how I'll get it out if I ever need to in the future, but for today I decided to just leave the seat bolted in for the installation.

Pumping the seat up to max, and tilting the base back as far as it will go, there was a reasonable amount of space to work with, and one advantage of the manual boxes (ok, the only advantage) is that one of the mounting screws is outside the box and therefore quite easy to get in. But the other one (which is I think the same as both screws on the electric seat version) was an absolute sod. I lost count how many times I thought I had it right, and turned the driver for ages, only to have the screw fall out again when I removed the driver. I was driving me nuts (no pun intended).

Eventually I took off the other screw and removed the box, so as to familiarise myself with the layout. It was then I realised the problem, due to the width of the torx driver socket I was using, the screw wasn't going into the mounting hole straight, as the socket was pushing against the back of the box, hence it never bit.

With a bit of investigation though I found an alternative way, which I think might be useful for electric seat installations as well. If you fully open it and look inside the drawer, there are two plastic catches at the back which stop it opening wider. But these can both be depressed and the drawer pushed past them to open even wider. With this done, the back of the drawer moves in front of the access to the screw tunnel, meaning you have a straight access to the tunnel from behind the drawer. Once I clocked this, I had the screw in within five minutes. It was still fiddly, as you're working even more blind behind the drawer, but being able to approach the hole square on made it infinitely easier to get it to bite.

Having now figured out this technique, I'm not sure I'll bother taking the seat out for the driver side box, as it's reasonably easy when you know how.

So, here are some pics of the finished job.

Here it is closed

And here's a longer shot of it open, you can see how it needs to be smaller to fit between the slider and tilter handles.

Lastly, a closer shot inside the drawer with my Audi key to give scale.

As you can see, the manual seat version really is very small, probably half the width of the electric seat one which wasn't massive to start with. With the benefit of hindsight I'm not sure I'd have spent the money for such small cubbys, but now I have them I'm sure I'll find something to use them for.

Picked up the correct part for the drivers side today and fitted this evening. Didn't bother taking the seat out this time, using the technique of opening the box extra wide it went in first try. Whole job done in five mins :2thumbsup:

So here's an update for those who have a NA S5.
I have a 2012 S5 Prestige with power electric S5 seats.
Using David Guide from Audi Enthusiast -
AudiEnthusiasts Under Seat Bins

I bought a pair of:
8K0 882 601 C 4PK storage bins.

First let me say, these things are a bitch to install. I needed to loosen the seat, tilt it back, then wrestle the mounts in. The bittersweet of the report:
The drivers side went in flawlessly. Works great.

I had a real problem with the passenger side. There is some kind of memory module under the seat, in the upper right corner (as you look at the seat tilted to the back). Even more concerning, this module has a scary "do not disconnect or remove" purple tamper detection sticker on it. This module interferes with the larger bins described.

I thought about trying to relocate the bracket/module, but that tamper sticker on it, I abandoned the thought.

Here's a pic of that module:
Image

You can see the square hole that is used for mounting the bin just behind it.

Now, looking that the pictures above from Ian D - there is apparently a seat bin that only is about 3/4 the size of the other one - and that offsetting may be to accommodate this module?

This all get very confusing, as passenger seats are drivers seats here in the US, unknown if the module in question was present on Ian's car, or if this would work...

Anyone have any idea?

The drawers I used were specifically for manual seats, as they leave space for the handles. I imagine they would fit on electric seats from the perspective of the screw holes lining up, but it would be pot luck whether they get round that module as they aren't designed for that AFAIK. They are also half the size of the drawers for the electric, so I really wouldn't bother to be honest. I use mine every day to hold my glasses case, but that fills it completely!

I thought this looked like a nice upgrade, had a look under mine this morning and realised they are already fitted. I have manual seats and have to say dont bother paying ÂŁ100 for them! struggle to get much more than a *** packet in them lol.
