If you are like me and you want to find the guy who decided to remove the auto dim mirror from a car of this price point and punch him in the face, then keep reading. I did this retrofit which great ease and now I'm happy again. Coming from an a4 that HAD this feature at a lower price point, I was quite upset to find out my car would have a manual dim mirror. So here is the cheapest way to get this in your car if you don't have it. There is a plug and play mirror but over here in the U.S., that mirror is around $250 and up on ebay. So I bought my mirror from Germany Ebay for $90. The part number is 4F0 857 511 F Z62, with the z62 being the color code. So that may change depending on the interior color, mine being silver. This mirror does not come with the 3rd zone sensor but that is easily combined into it from the old mirror. Here are the steps. Also you need to have third zone climate control for this to work. You'll grab power from there.
Third zone sensor and cover from original non auto dim mirror. This just snaps off the mirror with a little spreading and pulling. Remove both mirror's covers.
New mirror with compass sensor
You can see I routed the original plug around the compass sensor
Now the original cover and sensor around the new mirror and compass sensor
Splice the power and ground which is white and black on the new mirror and the two wires next to each other on the original mirror sensor.
Snap the mirror back on and the compass will adjust itself after a few miles of driving
