Exclamation Interior Lighting Package - retrofit?

Hello everyone!

has anyone tried retrofitting the interior lighting package?
is it possible to do it? is it very difficult?
my dealer is trying to persuade me that it is impossible, after
having misguided me when we were ordering my A5...

Dealers failing to know their products and inform customers about them is nothing new. Sorry to hear about your predicament.

As for retrofits, of course it can be done, each light and related cabling naturally is a separate question you may have to replace some trim with new parts, add the lights and some cables... It has been done in general on Audis but what cables and parts you need to buy in this particular case depends. The site in my signature hosts a lot of info, including how to find Audi repair manuals and wiring diagrams.

By impossible the dealer means they don't have a guide on how to do it...

as an American i'm curious, what comes in the interior lighting package?

I believe its all bundled in on the US cars. So i'd be interested to know what specifically comes in that package.

mainly you will get; glovebox light, front and rear footwell lighting. Not sure whether or not the door handle illumination and front roof console ambeient lighting is part of that package or comes as standard. I think its the latter.

How can you not include those lights in a car as standard? Seems like every other car I've driven has had lights in those areas even on the most basic model.

Wink

My car has only the two overhead lights at the front (driver and passenger)
and one central at the rear. believe me its really dark at night, there is no
red ambient or glove box light. its the only pain i have about this car.

it is such a pity, otherwise the A5 is a real "head-turner" wherever i drive her....

The ambient LEDs are standard. (They used to be an Audi lights pack feature, though in past/other models.)

Illuminated door controls and illuminated vanity mirrors are also standard, but a light in the glove box is not. This, IMO, is beyond belief.

I doubt you could buy any low-range car these days that doesn't have a light in the glove box, never mind a mid-range motor. I wasn't to bothered at first, but it's surprising how much of a PITA it is when you're looking for something on a cold dark morning.

Hi Robstu,

I'm looking to install the footwell lights. I've found the part numbers for the lights + cables. Any idea's where the cables get connected? I understand once connected I need to use VAGCOM to make them illuminate?

According the parts info there are no different vents available for illumination. I believe you will need to purchase the leds to fit inside them and they may possibly work. Im not sure on this as i havent taken one of the vents out yet.
