Advanced key entry problem (Now Fixed)

Since buying the car I have not had the ability to open/lock my car with the advanced key.
Key works fine in car and will start stop with it in my pocket.
I got my codes read today and found the following 3 codes...:yikes:

03286 Sensor for contact with door handle front right short with ground.
03285 Sensor for contact with door handle front left short with ground.
03287 Sensors for contact with door handles open circuit/short with power.

1. What does that mean?
2. how do you get into have a look?

#2 · (Edited)
1. your sensors are shot! Of course, the question is why do the errors say shorted to both power and ground...unless power and ground are shorted to each other. seems unlikely - i would assume that would blow out other stuff too.
2. I would expect this to involve door panel/door handle removal. Are you out of warranty? Is this a retrofit? If not then dealer should fix it, correct? Should be as simple as replacing door sensors (the ones you press before opening the door)

Yes car is a 2007 so warranty long gone.
This is factory fit.
Any idea of cost of sensors?

03286 Sensor for contact with door handle front right short with ground.
03285 Sensor for contact with door handle front left short with ground.
03287 Sensors for contact with door handles open circuit/short with power.

Anyone else done this or got a DIY?

I'd say the problem isn't in the door sensors. The fault code suggests that both front sensors are affected so I think the problem lies elsewhere in the circuit which is causing a problem to manifest in both fronts.

I've had a look at the Current Flow Diagram for you.

The Antenna in the two front doors appear to be quite simple two wire units. One wire is ground which from what I can see doesn't appear to be shared between the units but tapped from the main ground for the individual door control units so if there was a ground problem I think you've have door locking and electric window issues.

You can check the ground with a meter in the door pillar connectors (T27a Drivers Side & T27c Passenger Side) Pin 23 on either side. It is then grounded at a ground connector on the chassis in the door pillar area.

The other wire goes to the Central Convenience Unit J393. The Drivers door connects to Pin 32 (Green/Grey) on plug T32e and the Passenger door Pin 30 (Green/Not Known) again on plug T32e. These both go via the T27a & T27c door pillar connectors as mentioned above on Pin 2 on either side.

Thank you but you lost me a bit when you started on T27a etc (What is that)
I presume you mean both ant take the earth from the car and are not connected to each other?
Could you please explain or pics etc, sorry to sound a bit thick in this but new to the audi lingo :)

What I can tell you is everything else on the car works fine no popping of fuses etc and all else works with regards to the advanced key (as far as I'm aware anyway)

If you do want to look at the antenna in the handles then the door handles are removed entirely from the outside of the door so no removal of interior trim required.

VAG give their plugs an assignment code. In this case T27a or T27c, it doesn't really matter to you except perhaps to try and identify it as the 27 means it's a 27 pin connector but it's probably the only one that connected the door to the car.

They are both connected to the chassis but on different sides of the car.

Perhaps it could be the antenna but it seems odd that both have gone. Maybe if they aren't too expensive buy one and try it.

Replace both door sensors. Audi has actually updated them because of a high failure rate is what I was told. Had mine replaced last week.

If one goes out they both go out. Also with the new sensors both need to be replaced. If you replace one it doesn't work.

Mine was under warranty so I couldn't tell you how much. I can tell you it takes no more then 2 hours(actually about 1.5 hours) to replace both sensors at the dealership so not much labor involved. Chances are the sensors aren't more then $75 US dollars a piece. I would think around $300-$350 or so through the dealership to replace them.

Ahh that's interesting to know then that if one fails that both of them go open CCT.

Today i,ve replaced 1 sensor only in drivers door. It took me 15 minuta and required to loose only 1 screw to remove handle from outside. sensor cost me 60 euro. Later on I've erased in vcds errors about it and all is working fine with just 1 sensor removed. now can lock and unlock car by handles in both doors.

#12 ·
So could that mean I may have only one sensor knackered??

03286 Sensor for contact with door handle front right short with ground.
03285 Sensor for contact with door handle front left short with ground.
03287 Sensors for contact with door handles open circuit/short with power.

What's the cost of these in the UK?
How do you remove them and is there a left & right?

#13 ·
Dealers telling you that if 1 sensor goes then both needed to be replaced is typical audi bull shat!! As lukjod mentioned 1 sensor can be replaced very easily.
Also the stealers should not be charging anywhere near 1.5-2hours labour as it is only a 10-15min job at the very most. Typical audi ripoff merchants. They have had a high failure rate in the earlier cars and were replacing them often; however they only cost around ÂŁ20 then and now with the revised part they have increased the price to ÂŁ70 !! Go figure!

Oh i suggest that if you have access to vcds try to clear the codes first before you replace sensors as i had the same issue on my Q5 and clearing the codes rectified the issue.

I got my codes read a little while ago for the first time since owning the car and got them all reset but was left with the 3 listed above.
Are they side specific?

OK guys I was just having a think about this and just remembered
somthing my car use to be wrapped prior to buying it.

Could this have been anything to do with it????

#18 ·
they done it as part of the deal.
Looked rubbish unless it was getting dropped spacers bigger wheels but not what I wanted.

Sensors are not handed so the same sensor will work on either side. Suggest you buy one first and try it to see if its one particular one that is faulty. Before you do though have you removed them and reconnected the sensors? dirty contacts maybe? with a working sensor the keyless shoudl start working without a reset of the codes.
Send me your email address and i will send you some better instructions (official) on how to remove the handle.

Bought a door sensor today ÂŁ64.52.
Tried it in drivers door before putting all back together
Jackpot :2thumbsup:
Went to passenger door an no change on that side so i think passeger
One must be dud also.

Question i have now is...
Drivers door working sometimes and not others?
Could this be because of passenger side?
Any ideas?
I will have to get a new one from Audi for pass side.

Just been back out to car and not working at all again.

Thanks Morski for details.

Fixed/ with a short DiY

Replaced the Passenger side sensor today after the driver one yesterday.
All working.
I took a couple of photos as I was doing this as it might help other folks.
15min job max.

Torex Screw in the door level with the handle behind rubber, this is captive so you can't screw it all the way out.

Image

Remove plastic cover (I just gave it a pull with my fingers)

Image

Remove plastic insert (Or Door lock depending on which side your doing)
This was harder to remove (I used grips with a cloth) just gave a gentle wiggle.

Image

The 2 parts of the handle just removed.

Image

Move the handle towards the hole where blank was then just give gentle pull to remove (Hinge action)

Image

The handle will just pull out when it's 90 degrees to the door.
Disconnect wiring to sensor (Watch wiring dosn't go back inside door)

Image

Full handle and parts.

Image

New Sensor at the top which has changed slightly then old one then handle.
To remove sensor from handle you pop the wiring out from the end then you will need a small screwdriver to prise the end out (Opposite end from wiring)so you can slide the sensor out of the handle.

Image

My Damaged sensor which has cracked and full of water.
Old one was see through but new one is black.

Just do everything in reverse.
I found it easier when putting the handle back in to put a piece of string round the door release so I could pull it to get the handle behind it.
Image

Once the handle was behind it just pull one end of the string through and the catch stays behind the handle.

I hope this has helped if your keyless entry dosn't work.

These are not sided left or right.
2007 3.0 Tdi Coupe.

Audi parts guy said no such thing as a 2007 A5 even though I told him it's an 2008 model registered in 07. gave chassis no also and still he wanted to see the car even though it had a private plate on it. :wall: Go figure.
:laughinatabove:

All chuffed with myself so I showed the wife (Preggers) who couldn't work the simplest of things  she couldn't work the advanced entry then said the time it would take her to get in she would be better with a key :wall:
You just can't win.

hello Shamus, I have the same problem with my AUDI Q5 convinience key keyless entry. Please kindly send me the pictures for showing how to change the sensor at passenger side because I could not open the pictures in the forums.

Sorry mate. Can't help with the antenna question. I'm actually looking for clarification regarding the symptoms of the faulty sensor. I'm having the same issue where the car won't lock using the sensor on the door handle but it also won't lock when I push the lock button on the key.

It seems like a physical issue with the lock mechanism more than the door sensor. If I push the lock button the security light changes it's flashing pattern but I do not hear the door lock. When I then open the door the factory alarm goes off until I press the unlock button on the key. When this occurs I have tried to get back in the car and drive it around the block in the hopes of resetting something to rectify the issue but it doesn’t work. I have however noticed that when I do this the door does not lock as it should based on the cars speed. This only seems to affect the driver’s door as I hear the passengers door lock at speed.

Can the sensor physically stop the locking mechanism from functioning at all? Meaning that a bad sensor would stop the door from locking when it reaches the appropriate speed? I’m just trying to determine if replacing the sensor is a waste of money and I should look at the lock mechanism instead.

Cheers!

I realize now that the driver’s side door actually doesn’t lock at all during these episodes even when pushing the button on the key fab. It seems to me it would be the lock motor but I’d appreciate feedback around if the door sensor has the ability to stop the door from locking all together if it goes bad. What I really need is VCDS to scan… perhaps the wife will come through for Christmas..

Hi all - my first post! :)

I hope I'm not breaking the rules here because my query is about an A7 & not an A5??? Sincere apologies if so & do please correct me :)

An Audi "specialist" (so not a main dealer) here in the UK has sold me a used A7 (& so not an A5, again, hope this is ok!) but this thread is very close to my issue.

The car was sold / described to me as having "Advanced Key" and checks with an Audi dealer post-purchase have revealed that the car only has parts of "Convenience key" - or most of it because of this package from when it was built / new: "PCG-Adaptive cruise control (ACC) with stop&go function including pre-sense front."

So the car has keyless go (and a few minor things associated with Convenience Key - such as audible alarm for the auto-boot - which is only with conv. key) and it seems to store info on the key such as seat settings etc.

So I wondered, as the car has keyless go & seems to have other bits associated with Conv. Key, what might I need (apart from the 4 door sensors) to retro-fit keyless entry to the car? I guess I may not need the convenience module because of the keyless go it already has & perhaps I also don't need some of the aerials again because it has keyless go. Perhaps even I don't even need to replace the key fob(s) as well??

Can anyone shed any light please?

I'm in the market for a (genuine) VCDS cable and software ASAP as well - so am looking around to get one - which I'm sure someone here will tell me I'll need for this job if feasible.

The dealer had the car serviced (t a main dealer - but ONLY paid for an oil change) & so neglected to clear off the service indicator - so its telling me I need to service the car every time I start or stop the engine (which is very annoying - as well as the permanent spanner icon on the dash-LCD). It's too much hassle to return the car & despite the additional financial cost (as there were other issues as well), I think I'd just like to move on and see if I can retro fit.

Any experts any suggestions please?

Thanks a million up front :)
