Hi guys,

I have (had!) a A5 S-line 1.8 TSFI 12 reg until last weekend when I was driving back from the in laws with the wife and 8 month old daughter and the car caught fire.

Luckily we managed to get out in the 30 seconds between pulling over and flames coming from the engine bay but I just wanted some advice as to how I can proceed. The car is a total loss and is currently with the insurance company but surely audi need to take some responsibility here. I noticed they had done a recall on 2013 onwards vehicles but mine obviously wouldn't have been included.

I am yet to find out the cause but should I be complaining to Audi UK about this? My concern is it hasn't got full audi service history (a local audi specialist has done the servicing) so I imagine that will be their stock answer however it is pretty disgraceful that they can fob these incidents off when we could have been injured or worse through no fault of our own!

Pics are too large to upload but they are pretty devastating lol

I feel so sorry that you and your family had to go through such a scary experience. I am glad no one was hurt and everyone is OK. The A5 is certainly not known for this sort of issue. Though, there is one A4 owner in South Africa who experienced the same incident just recently but it was caused by poor workmanship after he had it serviced for, I think, fuel line related issues. You can read all about it here: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a4...nth-old-2016-audi-bursts-into-flames-2911744/

I think it would be no use to complain to Audi UK for something that is not their fault. The car is not known to burst into flames. When did your mechanic last service your car and for what problem? Is it just regular maintenance? Whoever last touched your car may be at fault depending on what they did to it.

Won't the insurance company do some sort of post mortem to figure out what went wrong, or is that being too hopeful? I'd wait for that before chasing people around.
